Hi all,

I'm looking to do MEL-LAX return in September and would like to travel in Premium Econ (there are no Business rewards available this late in the game). There are Premium Economy reward seats available out of and into SYD and BNE but obviously not between these and MEL given there is no PE domestically.

I called the Platinum desk yesterday and was told it would be possible to travel MEL to SYD or BNE in Economy and then onto LAX in Premium Economy all on one ticket so the connection is protected, but on calling back just now I've been told this isn't possible... Has anyone had any experience with this? My other option is to book the legs separately but I don't like to live that dangerously.

I made the point that I could buy a PE revenue fare between MEL and LAX (with the domestic leg presumably in Economy) so it should also be possible as a reward but this fell on deaf ears.

Thanks

Have you tried a multi city reward booking?

Yeah I've tried that - the person I first spoke to at the Platinum desk last night mentioned there is a particular team that handles multi city rewards, but when I asked to speak to that team tonight I was told categorically that what I wanted isn't possible. I'll try calling again shortly, maybe the third time is the charm.

It shouldn't be this difficult.

You can do it yourself online. It gives you the option of Y or J for the domestic leg then you can select PE for the long haul.

So I called back and the best solution was to make separate bookings and have these linked with notes in the bookings. This is what I've done so hopefully all goes as planned.

Another tip what I usually do, (however only for flights leaving australia, never bothered with the return leg) if you explain your situation to the check in agent at the airport, they can usually link your bookings and tag your baggage to final destination at the counter for you. Otherwise the lounge angels can usually sort it out if you don't have checked baggage (possible even with!).
