DOT will no longer require carriers to honour mistaken fares...subject to conditions, of course:

DOT Reverses Its Policy Requiring Airlines To Honor Mistaken Fares - Transport - United States

Yeah - been out for a week or so now and briefly discussed in other threads here on AFF and elsewhere.

A number of mistake fares have pretty much forced DOT's hand (on what was already a badly drafted regulation).

UA ex Denmark and Rangoon Round 3 are the two which probably forced this issue. Instead of just accepting the game, many purchasers had to push the point.

The original regulation had good intentions, but when being used to 'penalise' airlines, something had to give.

I would be surprised if this 'temporary' regulation lasts... the requirement to pay 'reasonable' expenses is wide open for potential abuse (and indeed refusal by airlines), and will quite possibly create more work for DOT than the original issue of the mistake fare itself.
