minor reductions in Qantas credit card surcharges

I guess you could call this a positive enhancement, but $7 is still extremely exorbitant and IMO not a "reasonable" charge. I thought the RBA were cracking down on this nonsense??

It is if your fare is $1000! But if your fare is $100, it doesn't seem reasonable at all (6.4%+GST).

When did debit cards start attracting a fee? So only BPAY is fee less?

The credit card surcharge looked totally unreasonable when SYD-BNE airfares were $65.

Glad there is a way of avoiding the surcharge.

If I can use my credit card to buy a $0.95c apple at my supermarket why on earth is any surcharge reasonable????

The bit I don't get is why the surcharge/fee is "per person" when you pay for two or more fares on the one card in one transaction? Surely the cost of processing is the same; and given that it is a flat fee rather than a percentage it just doesn't make sense. JV

Good point - they may as well charge the surcharge/fee based on the number of vowels in your name.

Its absurd, arbitrary and certainly defies logic, as you say.

That is because it is not a credit card surcharge.

It is a very simple way for airlines to make money without increasing their airfares and they have the blessing of the RBA.

It is totally wrong.

I wonder why no-one has suggested a law compelling those selling online that the initially quoted price must be all inclusive of the most expensive payment mechanism - with merchants free to provide a discount based on the method of payment if they like. We would all feel a lot better if that $65 fare was quoted as $72, and when you get to the payment screen, selecting BPAY gives you a $7 discount! People don't seem to mind SQ's "payment" surcharge of $25 (on Australian originating journeys) as you don't even see it, it's factored in to the fare quote on page 1.

Same as 'booking fee' for concerts, etc. Just a rip off.

If your business cannot absorb the booking fee/surcharge, or what ever it is called, in the initial price there is something seriously wrong with the business model.
