Hi all

Just prompted by dfcatch's rookie mistake (leaving his passport at home) I was reminded that boygr will have about six months remaining on both his UK and Oz passports and was wondering if there are any minimum requirements for entry into the EU and Oz for citizens of those respective states in terms of remaining expiry time on passports.

I will do a google search but as always enjoy drawing on the collective brilliance of AFF

6 months is the traditional requirement for entering a different country. But I would have thought there'd be no restriction for entering issuing country of the passport. It's not like they can deny entry in the later case.

ie Aus Passport into UK - 6 months, UK passport into UK - no restriction.

Cheers

I just checked and we have longer than I thought - and I will have to check the specific requirements in DXB as well...

was in a similar position two years ago, didn't pay attention before heading to Europe and had less than 6 months when coming back to SYD, didn't have a problem as my visum in the passport was valid for another couple of years but was worried a bit

Hello simongr.
I agree with the other posters, that most countries say you have to have at least 6 months validity in your passport.

FYI, I am about to renew my UK passport which expires in October and I notice in the small print that it does say they give extra validity if you renew early. In other words by renewing in May, they aren't just going to give me 10 years from May, they will give me till the anniversary date of the expiring passport ie. October. I am pretty sure that my Oz passport renewal was just 10 years from the renewal date ie. 9 and a half years for the same price as 10 years!!

Of course, I could have completely misinterpreted what I read but I am pretty sure that's correct.

It says " You can apply for a replacement passport any time before your existing passport expires and we can add up to 9 months validity from your current passport to your new one."
