For 15 yrs. I was a vegetarian and for some unknown reason I started eating meat again abt. 3 wks. before my recent o/s trip.

Some of the travel books plus the qantas book suggest best h/burgers @ LeParker Meridien, 119 W. 56th Street.

I would suggest The Five Guys, 55th W. Street, between 6th Ave of the Americas and 5th Ave. IMHO, they beat the above.

There is also a dining place with balcony almost opp. the five guys that is also in frommes travel book. I didn't try it out, next time.

Also, if you want great bar-b-que food, try Virgils Real BBQ @ 152 W. 44th (bet. 6th and 7th). Having grown up in the midwest of US, it was fair dinkum.

If you are in D.C., get a chili hot dog @ The Old Post Office.

If you want personal service for shoes, you can't beat Lord & Taylors, think on 5th Ave, can't remember. The salesman was fantastic. Yes, I bought 3 pairs of 2 I don't really like.

Coming back into Oz. on Thurs. I went to both QF lounges in Sydney and Brisbane. Wondered why I wasn't directed to the business lounge in each place as I was travelling business. I had to ask once I got into the other lounges if this was business.

Great to be home though. :)
cheers

But if you like Texas BBQ then it is Hill Country at 27th and Broadway.

For the best Mexican in the city, any of the Dos Caminos venues. They make the guacamole at your table, and the prickly-pear margaritas are fantastic!

I love the Rocking Horse Cafe (8th Ave at 19th). Also another one down in The Village/Little Italy area - can't remember the name but it's near Lombardi's at Spring and Mott. Fantastic pizza at Lombardi's btw. :)
