Travellers do tend to get so excited most of the time when travelling, however, they also travel sometimes with or without a mini med kit in times of need. How about you guys, do you ever travel with a mini med kit with you in anticipation of unlikely events? Or is it a hassle and might be better to be able to just buy it just right around the corner of any available pharmac_ or medicine source in the country/place your travelling in?
Let me know your thoughts on this one.

Cheers

I virtually always have one...

I take it in my day backpack virtually anywhere I go...bushwalking, daytripping, down the beach....etc etc

Is only the size of a fat paperback novel.

Has come in handy often....more often for someone else.

elastoplast, amoxilcillian 500mg, bum plugging pills and thats about it for me...

In Australia, never travel with first aid kit

Panadol, band aides, gastrolyte, Sleeping tablets (temazepam), antibiotics (eg Augmentin Duo, Rulide), Pseudofed, and Strepsils for overseas trips.

Have to declare the Pseudofed in partic, on reentry to Australia:evil: - got into a big argument with a customs officer a while back as they insisted I had to declare it, and I hadn't....in the end I won the argument because I told them that the quantity I had was perfectly legal in Australia, and in fact I had bought them from a chemist in Sydney prior to my trip; they insisted I still had to declare it as it could be illegal to which I scoffed and said that I knew what were legal and illegal drugs in Australia, at which time I told them my profession as they wanted to know. They conceded my Pseudofed (and amount) was perfectly legal but still insisted that I should declare them next time to save all these Qs:shock::shock:. PS have to be careful tho. as it is illegal to bring Pseudofed into some overseas countries:idea:

Domestically
, nothing as everything mentioned above I can easily get from a chemist, and nearly everything else from Coles / Woolworths. Handy to be able to write your own scripts for antibiotics:mrgreen:

Panadol, nurofen plus ( great washed down with a Berocca for a hangover), bandaids, ondansetron wafers. Melatonin, Temazepam, Augementin Duo.
Anything else I'm happy to pick up on location.

ondansetron wafers
I might add that one to my kit...does it work for sea sickness as well?:p...we have a 5 day cruise on our next OS trip and my +1 is a bit prone to sea sickness:shock:

A packet of Panadol, a sewing kit, a sharp knife and a hip flask of vodka.

I've never had to use any of it so far, so it's worked for me! :D

most of the above but have carried norfloxacin (for the diarrhea! from all the street food :p) in Asia and recently tamiflu:shock:

It's a great anti-emetic and definitely works for sea-sickness secondary to a hangover ;)

I have a St John's supplied personal first aid kit which comes with me on all trips longer than 24hrs without fail.

While the exact kit I have is no longer supplied in WA, the personal motoring kit is usually sufficient for travel. I just add in some preferred pain killers, a cold/flu fighter, and that's pretty much it for me.

The advantage is that it's bright red, and is always easy to find in my bag or my room.

I usually just take Nurofen plus for headaches. I have never even considered the other stuff. I suppose it depends very much upon where you are heading?

I don’t travel with any medical supplies. That’s what my travel insurance is for, and of on an airline, I expect them to deal with it. Last time I was given medication on a plane was returning from a MEL Drinks night with a hangover and a JQ FA gave me a glass of water and a panadol :)

I travel with a fairly extensive kit, even when in Australia because it is not always easy to find a chemist open when you need one, and when you aren't feeling well who wants to go running around looking for a chemst ? It has served me well on many occasions.

Domestically and "normal" international travel (not expecting to go anywhere too remote) I take my standard kit with all manner of dressings, betadine, lancets, antinausea/emetics, augmentin, norflox etc. I also have adrenaline + needles + syringes because often I travel with my mum who is very allergic to insect stings (yes she has an epipen, but it's good to know I have extra doses!).

When I'm travelling to remote areas in SE Asia I've got the extended kit with various needles, syringes, cannulas, HIV post exposure prophylaxis kit (got it for a medical elective, figured since I've got it may as well haul it around!), local anaesthetic, cipro. rulide, sutures etc etc.

I now travel with two small bags:
  1. Litre clear ziplock bag containing eye-drops (as well as other LAGs)
  2. Aspirin, Paracetamol, Mylanta tabs, Sewing kit, Elastoplast strips, tooth picks.

I forgot, I generally take Piriton with me, as you never know what you’ll bump into that you’re allergic to, plus it helps put you to sleep at night.

Ewww! Stay away from me then, I especially don't want to catch small pox ;)

I daresay some of us on this forum have already been vaccinated ;)

Alcohol wipes is the other thing I've always got plenty of. No, I'm not one of those germophobes who wipes everything (heck I eat pretty much any food off the floor, if the cats don't get to it first!) but they're bloody handy.
