Hi all, i'm flying (amonst other legs) from LGW to FCO and can't work out the miles. I'm booked disc economy (euro traveller) but can upgrade to Club Europe for 75Euro. Not sure what additional points etc this will get me on my QFF (QFSG). Can anyone point me in the right direction to finding this out?

thanks

Hi msjacq,

This is a fantastic deal, would you mind explaing to us how you can upgrade from discount economy to Business for only 75euros. If this is a promotion, then mileage earning will be in the T&C's but if this is a standard offer, my guess is you would earn points for the cabin flown in and paid for (ie, you are flying club europe and are paying the upgrade for it.)

Cheers,

If you are booked (confirmed) in Club Europe before departure, then you should earn business class points and SCs in the Qantas FF program. However, if you use BA's option to pay for an upgrade once on board, then you will still earn points and SCs per the original boarding pass issued.

Its not cheap and obviously pending availability and catering etc. Need to hand over the credit card to the CSD after boarding. I am not sure if this is restricted to only long-hauls, or if it is available on all flights.

I have read reports of people paying onboard for multi-class upgrades, where they just add together the costs for each cabin upgrade.

BAs economy-WT+ upgrade onboard cost on most routes is iirc GBP200 . not too bad a cost for a 10 hour flight from LHR-LAX where I used it once.

msjacq I did this (purchasing upgrade before the date of flight) and earned business points and SCs on the route in late March. The LGW-FCO flights aren't that special as the planes are old 737s, though the crew member was very good. But the flights are much cheaper than the LHR-FCO flgihts. I hope you don't arrive at the same time as the Delta flight like I did. The non-EU line was enormous with just two officers checking passports, though it was the usual Italian cursory and dismissive glance and stamp.
Just remember that the CE checkin is rather hidden away at LGW.

Hi littl_flier, I didn't do anything speacial and I don't know if this is a promo or not - but when I went on BA 'manage my booking' to move seats, there was a message in the red box at the top, where you can usally print the itinerary from, offering an upgrade for E75. Just FYI ended up taking the offer and they charged me in GBP(59) which is actually more AUD than 75E - but not too bad.

Thanks for your advice openseat - i'll just cross my fingers and hope to avoid the delta mob. Won't spoil my mood anyway - it's my first trip to Rome and I'm only there for a weekend so no time to grump!

cheers,

msjacq.

Just feel sorry for me then... i have no upgrade on CX today SIN-HKG-MEL, not even a blocked seat ! its over sold and 3.5 hours before the flight 20 people are waiting at the counter begging to get a flight ! my forward isle seat as a OW saphire is 48D !!!

Atleast i am on my 3rd beer in the QF/BA loung in SIN right now.

poor you - drink up... hopefully it will numb the pain
I am also on my third drink in the QP (FLounge in MEL). And Qantas has also refused to block the seat next to me for my flight. On the shame of it. Then again, I don't think my plight is quite as dire as yours ;) . Hope you survive  .

Well i did make it ! would you believe there was only 1 single seat on the whole flight free and that was an F seat, but that was 30 mins before departure and being held back by CX so not sure if they filled it.

Sitting in the CX J lounge now, looking good for a free seat next to me, EF is still showing free 45 mins before departure but i may sneak down the back, loks like whole rows of 4 are free. J and F look full, only a couple of blocked seats bit non free.

Have a nice flight !
