His comment was every bit as helpful as ShootDA3's comment about being a platinum member.

Precisely why I made the comment :!:

Once maybe but four times :!: It's tedious, annoying and unnecessary :!:

Straitman's comment was merely a warning to Shootda3 as to 'stop spamming the forum'.

People have better things to do, e.g. discuss than read through someone's spam mail. Once may be funny, but four times in different posts is just childish and stupid. No one is remotely impressed. Unless of course, StatusChaser, you're condoning it by flaming the people who are trying to stop it ?

Shootda3's comment as well was irrelevant - status gaining tricks. You can't gain more status above plat level. You can gain points (100% bonus), but not status.

Even if you upgrade, you should only get the status for the fare class originally purchased.

And isn't it strange that both of the flamers are "guests", rather than regular posters.

Nothing strange about that. Their membership (actually it was probably one person - an identical IP address and both flamers used the same company email account), was cancelled so they are considered "guests" by the Bulletin Board software, and are unable to post again. A number of our regular members complained, we gave it a couple of days but as the flaming continued, their membership was cancelled.

Banning users and/or cancelling members is a last resort. Our policy to is give everyone a voice, provided that they adhere to the conditions of use which they agree to when registering.

Thanks for that admin - I was wondering about the "guest" handle, and suspected that they were one and the same.

Time to resurrect the topic, re: mileage runs.

As an example, flying MEL-LAX-JFK-LHR-FRA-SIN-PER-MEL

Is it cheaper to buy a RTW business ticket, taking in all the cities above in business, or is it cheaper to go and do the domestic / short hops in economy and the long hauls in business ?

I'm unsure on this and would like some input. Common sense would indicate that it may be cheaper 'as a package' (e.g. all business flights) instead of just being 'mix and match'. I say this, because I'm one of those people who would be happy to do short hops in economy and do the long hauls in business (where I can sleep properly)

From my experience :!: :!: :!:

It's a bit of a moving target. I would suggest that on MOST occasions the RTW business ticket would be better. If not better it certainly would be similar so then you get to lapup the extra comfort, status credits and mileage that this would give.

As usual I don't believe there is any hard and fast rule here, you just need to shop around.

I hope that helps a little :!:

Gaining More Status credits

Hello All
I have just joined and have two basic questions? :)
I fly return from Adelaide to Sydney quite a lot and I am trying to gain more status credits, I have tried booking flights via Melbourne to add in another sector but the cost is too high to make it worthwhile, is there a way in doing this without incurring the extra cost? Also I notice that everyone talks about the seat allocation for each flight and being able to access this information somewhere but I haven't been able to find this information Yet - Help? :? JamieB, well the only way to get more sectors flown (and status credits racked up) is if your score cheap deals through QF website (where the routing is ADL/BNE/SYD where you'd score 30 SC's). It really doesn't matter after 1 July, as it is the type of fare that will determine more SC's. On your discount economy tickets, you still get 10 SC's for the sectors that you would fly (unless you fly ADL/BNE - it's the only one over 1,000 miles). If you bought K, H, B or Y fares (more expensive), then you'd start chasing more SC's.

For domestic flying there is no pre-assigned seat allocation :( (well, there might be behind the scenes, about 1/3rd pre-assigned to Plat, Chairmans Lounge, CIP's, etc). What time you turn up to check-in will usually help to score a decent seat. That's where status helps...

Lindsay, for K,H,B,Y fares, when you say 'more expensive', as a ballpark figure, how much are we looking at over a discount economy fare ?

If it is a couple of bucks more (+50, +100), I would be tempted to pay the extra to get the extra SCs, if 1000, maybe not.

Depends who's paying

icemann, for example early June K class BNE/MEL/BNE was $637 (incl taxes). I got the most out of it (paid with QANZ Visa - double points of 599 x 2) and 1,718 odd points (being Plat). So all up, I got 20 SC's and
2,916 QFF points. For the same fare post 1 July, everything will be the same but I will earn 40 SC's.

Probably a better example is the previous flights - BNE/PER/ADL/MEL/BNE. It cost $1,614 and I collected 3,226 points through QANZ Visa, 9,842 from QFF - total 13,068. Got 60 SC's. However, post 1 July, I would earn 120 SC's for the same outlay and points.

My (family) company pays for my tickets (so indirectly, it comes out of my pocket anyway).

To me, the new system is rewarding me for flying - exactly what I want from QF.

Cheers for that Lindsay :D

My company doesn't know which one to go for, and basically throws me the ball in terms of planning my own itinerary. :D

A lot of our guys go Virgin Blue, but I choose to go with QF or OW. The other guys with me aren't so up to date in the FF game, but if I get half the chance, I map my itineraries out on QF / OW flights any day of the week, to get the status and the points. 8)

A great way to go if you have the opportunity :!:

Unfortunately on the few business trips I get at the moment it's booked through a pre determined agent and in a pre determined class. :(

Sorry to hear that, Straitman.

The way I see it though, is if I'm paying out for a QC membership, then why not go and use the facilities there / get more status ? Which translates to me flying OW / QF when I can. I need that QC for business, (see my other post today re: city guides) to perform properly and at my best.

If I was flying my execs anywhere, I would want them to arrive in the best shape possible, to be able to do business. I see it that, if you tell someone to do a job, at least give them the tools with which they can do the job properly. Nothing annoys me more than in the past, when I rocked up a few hundred US$ on expenses out of my own pocket on a business trip, just to have to wait to get them reimbursed 2 weeks later. The fact that money was tight for me back then didn't seem to sway anyone's idea that a couple of hundred might just be the difference between keeping up with the rent while I was away, and not.

Somebody please give the guy a corporate AMEX card instead and work it out later, instead of this 'reimbursement' nonsense.

As a good example though, when flying in D/J class, I feel a damn sight more refreshed than I do if people are trying to cut corners on business trips and putting me in economy.

I don't know how others feel, but I'm one of those who, when I come off a long haul economy, or even just a bit of a long DOM leg, I feel physically ill, like I want to throw up. The inflight meal often doesn't get eaten, because I feel like death warmed up.

When I fly D/J, I feel so much better - I don't know why, or if it's the mere fact that I can sleep on the plane, or just kick back and relax, but in economy, I feel awful when I come off the plane. I flew SIN-PER-ADL recently in economy and felt awful by the time I'd gotten into PER. This kind of thing should NOT happen, because I'm not one for getting travelsick.
