I recently booked return flights from Melbourne to Hamilton Island. I cashed in velocity points to upgrade the return leg and the correct amount of points was deducted according to the mileage calculator on the Velocity website (according to the calculator, the distance is 1239 miles).

The interesting thing is, on my itinerary that was emailed with my e-tickets, the mileage is listed as 1184 miles. This would put the points deduction for the upgrade in the 601 to 1200 mile band, and less points should have been deducted from my account as a result.

Which mileage figure is correct?
