Hi All,

I am wanting to fly to KUL from SYD via SQ F.

Now I need some help in the calculation:

There are no F savers available for SYD-SIN-SYD. SIN-KUL-SIN only has Business as highest class.

I am happy with a standard award booking for the F class, Business saver is available for the SIN-KUL-SIN sector.

I am not going to be staying in SIN, so just transit and go to KUL.

F standard award is 300000 but with discount it's 255000 for return SYD-SIN-SYD. J saver is 35000 but is 29750 after discount for SIN-KUL-SIN return.

This is a mix class booking so I guess I need to call them they are happy to apply the 15% discount however they treat it as 2 separate bookings i.e. I need to have 255000+29750 = 284750miles to do: SYD-SIN-KUL-SIN-SYD. bear in mind I will not be staying over in SIN, just a transit.

Are their calculations correct?

I would of thought Zone 9 - Zone 2 its F standard is 300000 which is 255000 miles after discount. How come they treat it as 2 separate bookings? I would of thought SYD-KUL is the same as SYD-SIN in terms of miles required.

Thanks,
K.

You are right with the Zone 9 to Zone 2 but there is no F flight from SIN-KUL, hence they are charging the mix class as a 2 separate bookings.

Do you really need to book the standard award booking to fly F? That is a lot of KF miles you'll be burning in that 15hrs flight. If you go with J, provided there is a saver award for the return flight, it will only cost you 93,500 SYD-SIN-KUL and return. A saving of almost 191,250 KF miles that you can put to a good F and J redemption to in the future. Just my 2 cents :)

Thanks. Even j is waitlist for saver. They have it for standard but if that's the case I rather go all out for F. What do you think?

I wouldn't do it but that's me. I couldn't see the value of redeeming standard award at all.

Are you all set for SQ or is open for others?

I am open to others but I looked at qf no seats. BA not sure. I also have 120000 Qf points. I prefer not to fly MH lol.
dates need to depart Sydney 26th or 27th dec and return on the 5th Jan

You cutting it real fine with booking your award travel less than 6 months. Why not MH? Their new business class is great. There are heaps of availability on your travel dates, both direct and transit via MEL.

I could totally relate as I haven't had the opportunity to fly SQ. IMO, it is a waste of miles for that 15hrs return flight. You could do F return to Europe/ US and plenty of change for other redemption. It is after all your call to make. Happy days ðŸ

Thanks. Is the Syd-sin return in F long enough of a flight to enjoy F?

SYD-SIN is a decent 8 hour flight. meal timings can have an impact on your enjoyment.

i booked J standard (for 2!) the first time i got into the points game - have never booked a standard since. imo waste of points compared to what you can do with saver rates. to the point where i'd consider a cash Y fare instead.

Ok thx. I booked a F suites standard. I waitlisted for saver F. Let's hope it comes through.
