I am going to the Middle East in October-November, after a couple of weeks in North America.

My options of getting back to Melbourne are:

IST-SIN-MEL via Krisflyer (99000 points plus less than $100 taxes)- or

DOH-MEL direct via Velocity Rewards (108000 points plus $408 in taxes).

There is currently satisfactory availability on both.

Which is the better value and option? (assuming J class)

Which is an easier departure point, IST or DOH? That would be my first consideration and may influence my decision. I also like IST and would be happy to spend a few days there.
However, assuming the first option is SQ and the other QR, having never flown QR I would want to try the airline all else considered.
The few extra dollars and points would not bother me.

I wouldn’t hesitate with either, according to which departure airport is more convenient for you. However, all things being equal, my opinion is that the direct flight is a better option. You’ll be able to sleep without a layover to interrupt you, and in my opinion the dine-on-demand service that Qatar offers makes a big difference too.

I’d go QR direct, assuming the Q suite is available - definitely worth the experience if you have not flown QR before plus direct is less hassle and generally QR does great service.

Couldn't agree more, Q Suite is a great product. That would be my choice if I was you.
