Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Etihad is doing some extremely cheap one way tickets to London from Sydney for departures in the next week.
I wonder if it is worth to gamble with such low price.
I suppose it is either:
  • Your booking is confirmed and you are safely arrived London the next day and only spent a very cheap price, or
  • Your flights is cancelled and you are rebooked onto another flight, with or without fare difference?
If no fare difference is required for rerouting and rebooking, perhaps this is a good gamble after all?
I'd say you should book it. as you seem to have a high tolerance to risk.

The normal contract of carriage will apply unless otherwise stated.

In almost all cases the contract of carriage will provide for an alternate flight at no additional cost to the passenger, or a refund, in the case thr original flight is cancelled.

Check the EY conditions of carriage.

I mean, if you are not needed to arrive on that exact date and time if schedules change last minute, then I would probably chance it, if I had flexibility. I’d have a look at what EY is planning in the comms they put out and see what is actually moving, try to work out if they are getting flights out or everything is still a hit/miss. FR24 is a good tool for checking that out.

I agree, as there is a high chance that your travel plans are going to be delayed or disrupted.
But I suppose if you are on gap year or uni students, definitely now is the best time to book flights to Europe via Middle East:

Booking engine shows that if you leave right at the end of Semester 1 2026 and go back to Europe via Doha, it costs less than $1000 on Qatar Airways.
Going via East Asia, Americas and Africa now would definitely mean high fares and high non-refundable fuel surcharge.
It's definitely worth the risk if you want to enjoy European Summer this year cheaply, and hurry, book it before the troubles are over, as I can see Business/Premium Economy fares are trending normal.

8.5h in AUH as the war just escalated. (Oil facilities on both sides are now seriously being targeted).

Your own risk assessment.

I am seriously thinking about nixing Europe dep 29 May via Doha. Booked through Aeroplan so losses will be around 1k only. I just don't see this ending anything soon. There appears no back door diplomacy options and no one is willing to give an inch. Feeling very depressed about all of this now.
I just booked a back up trip to Asia. I already have the flight home via the existing trip so only up for $150 if Europe doesn't go ahead. At least I can salvage an Asia trip if flying via ME is still off limits Of course, if world goes to cough, and there is no jet fuel then all gets refunded anyway.

Yeah, I generally are happy to accept some risk but with Iran now accusing UAE of allowing the US to fire missiles from within I suspect they have a very big target on them now.
Unfortunately I feel things will get worse before they get better.
