Beautiful day for a walk in the park! We had a brunch reservation - so it was an easy start to this day.

During our layover in Charlotte, we picked up a new iPhone 8+ .... must say the camera performance is pretty impressive.

Soon enough it was time to make tracks to our brunch setting...

Given it was such a clear day we walked down to Dumbo’s Washington St for some of those iconic photo opportunities .... well pleased with the results of the iPhone 8.

We balanced that lovely meal by walking back to Manhattan

Back on Manhattan, the kids wanted to visit this bookshop. Their slogan is 18 miles of books .... there is something like 2.5million books in this place. Sadly the owner Fred Bass, passed away 3 days earlier. He was 89 and had worked in his father’s store since the age of 13.

Sad news.It was probably about 12 years ago I had a conversation with Mr.Bass whilst I was looking at the books as mrsdrron was at some nearby discount stores-DSW and Filene's basement if memory serves me correctly.

Our last day in NYC, the kids woke complaining that we were yet to eat a NYC Pizza. So we skipped breakfast and went walking - they were also whinging we hadn’t been to Time Square, so I killed two birds with one stone.

Love the number plate

About 6 shopfronts down from the PH is Angelo’s Pizza - not bad. TA has it in the top 8% of 9,631 restaurants in NYC.

Cracking weather in NYC - just love the crispy scenery against the clear blue sky!

I've never been to NYC in winter because I've figured with my luck it would be all cloud and slush.

I hope this comes past the paywall: Fred Bass died on January 3rd

I remember some years ago going to NYC for a few days as my first stop on a DONEx with the intention of eating at Gramercy - dang, they were closed! It was the Labor day long weekend and it caught me by surprise that they were closed because of a long weekend.

JFK-LAX QF12 J

We begin the journey home ... not the best start. Incoming flight was late out of LAX and then held by JFK ATC. After pushback, we then joined the de-icing queue. The crew made good time on the way over to LAX, however we sat on the ground for another hour waiting for a gate. Many unhappy QF flyers at LAX given the amount of people/flights held up waiting for our arrival from JFK.

I didn’t bother taking any photos of the BA JFK lounge.

LAX QF F lounge near deserted, as you would expect for a close to midnight arrival.

The menu looked like it was taken out of a bin...

Thanks very much for this TR. As I have said before, there were some great photos - both of the food and the sights. It was very enjoyable.

Have loved the report - especially the NYC pics. I adore NYC in winter.

For pizza - my visits always start with dinner shortly after arrival at Numero 28 on the Upper East Side. And a visit in there to Rubirosa down in Mulberry St.

Fantastic TR absolutely enjoyed it and learnt heaps. The food & beverage reports were just awesome. Many thanks for the effort CM.

Well, I'll be in New York in about a week, intending to do pretty much exactly the same things (minus the restaurants :( and, I hope, the ice and snow).

ie ... 9/11 museum, walk across the Brooklyn bridge, bookshop. I've said before we seem to follow each other around the place. maybe I should just get your next itinerary and save myself a lot of planning?:)

Just got around to finishing reading your TR (I see you just got around to finishing it ;) ) - seems like you had an epic trip with some fabulous food - thanks for posting.
