Forgive me if this is a silly question, but is it possible to merge a QF (PER-SIN) and a 3K (SIN-KUL) ticket together by calling Qantas.

As part of a seminar I attend in KL, we are given whY return ticket, and have a choice of carriers. The most logical from Perth is MH, but I am in need of a status run, and the quickest way to KL would be via SIN using QF and 3K. Would anyone suggest going through HKG instead solely on CX to make things easier?

Again apologies if a silly question, but I am in the process of preparing my routing request!

I doubt it.

Going to KL, you could take QF to SIN and connect to JAL to KUL (getting the right class of ticket though). Doesn't work to well comng back though as you would need to overnight in SIN. You could come back with SQ or MH to SIN, and given the short flight you are only really foregoing 10 SC (and about 200 points).

You could go 3K but would need to be on JetFlex tickets

I have done the QF77/JL721 combination to KUL before and it worked well.
I think you will find that many of the economy class fares sold by Qantas are valid for travel on both MH and SQ (and possibly JL) on the SIN-KUL leg. That way it can be sold by Qantas as a single ticket. The advantage of being sold as a single ticket is through baggage checking and projection of the first segment is delayed.

I don't think so given the 2 are on different systems. I don't know how it works on 3K, but you could get QF to insert an info segment on your QF booking of your 3K flight. That way QF knows you're coming and you might be able to plead for leniency if late.

If you're on a flexible fare, I suggest making things easier for yourself and rebook the SIN-KUL-SIN segments on JL/SQ/MI/MH on a single ticket with the QF segments..

All good points, and have done the QF77/JL721 myself. I returned on an SQ flight, primarily for the convenience of the the connection back to PER. I would use that connection in preference to having separate QF/3K tickets (unless for some reason I had a stopover in SIN each way), or going up to HKG and back.

A VLBB fare from Qantas shows the following Flight Application:
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED THE FARE COMPONENT MUST NOT BE ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING ANY QF FLIGHT OPERATED BY JQ.
AND THE FARE COMPONENT MUST BE ON ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING ANY QF FLIGHT ANY BA FLIGHT ANY CX FLIGHT OPERATED BY CX ANY SQ FLIGHT OPERATED BY SQ ANY JL FLIGHT OPERATED BY JL ANY PG FLIGHT OPERATED BY PG ANY MH FLIGHT OPERATED BY MH ANY TG FLIGHT OPERATED BY TG ANY GA FLIGHT OPERATED BY GA ANY MI FLIGHT OPERATED BY MI ANY LX FLIGHT OPERATED BY LX ANY KL FLIGHT OPERATED BY KL ANY KU FLIGHT OPERATED BY KU ANY UL FLIGHT OPERATED BY UL ANY JQ FLIGHT.
ExpertFlyer shows that fare as $876 return. Also shown are LLBB for $1033, MLSS for $1054, KLSS for $1156, HLSS for $1248, BLFF for $1305, and YLFF for $1433.

The YLFF is good value for earning QF Status Credits as all segments will book into Y fare class.

but at a 63% price premium

for a 100% SC bonus, and of course the better earning rate for JL segment. And better flexibility and availability. And the 5 day pre-purchase vs 14 days etc. And the reduced points required for an upgrade to J. All could be worth considering when making the far purchase decision.

I do know people who purchase such Y fares for such reasons ;)
