Merger off agenda for Qantas and BA | The Australian

THERE was no chance of resurrecting the failed merger between Qantas and British Airways, the chief executives of both airlines said yesterday.
British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh said the airlines, which scrapped their $8 billion merger talks just weeks after they were made public in December, had departed on friendly terms after "very good discussions" but he pronounced the deal dead.
"It was a very interesting proposal to look at, at the time, but there's no prospect I see of that being reopened," he said.
Asked about the merger, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the airline was focused on its core business and getting through the economic crisis. "As a consequence, we are not involved in any active merger talks," he said.
