Hi

I am travelling from Melbourne to Las Vegas in July 2015. The flights to travel to Vegas comes out in 2 weeks.
I am planning to book Premium Economy on the way there and Business on the way home (which I will be a few more weeks later)
What is the best way to do it - try and get a Premium Economy seat using FF or buy a Economy and use points to upgrade?
If using points for the whole trip is there a chance of Qantas moving me to another flight?

Thanks

The information you provide is a little sketchy but a few things to bear in mind, if you are not already aware of them:

Buying int. discount whY is not upgradeable at all.

July is high season in the US, MEL-LAX is a premium route and FFP redemptions are scarce - but you seem ready to act as soon as they become available.

So, from what you say, I'd be inclined to secure any PE seat available immediately when you can.

If it's leisure and you're not locked into a set date, make sure to look at a few days either side of the desired date as availability is likely to vary with day of the week.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I found the best classic availability is BNE - LAX. Maybe it pays to look at this as well and get a dom flight to BNE
