Hi I am flying out from Hobart to Melbourne as part of my trip to coughet and a little confused as to how the lounges work, when I arrive in Melbourne can I only use a lounge in the departure terminal? Using Dragonpass .I only just noticed lounges have arrival and departure on them , this is why I ask can you use either.

Dragonpass only gives you access to the Plaza premium lounge in MEL doesn’t it?
The Plaza Premium lounge is in T2 the International terminal. You will be arriving from Hobart in one of the domestic terminals. You didn’t mention which airlines you are flying with

What are your flights-airlines? Include an international flight?

Lounges are generally only for departures. A very few minor exceptions.
The Plaza Premium lounge in T2 the International terminal is in the departures area after security & emigration. Can only access if leaving AU or on one of the very few AU domestic flights that leave from international departures.

Some lounges have restricted opening hours.

Sorry should have said flying from Hobart with Virgin, then on to Melbourne to catch Singapore Airline to Singapore then onward to Chennai, all on the one ticket standard economy. 3h 50 min layover in Melbourne, only 1h 20 min in Singapore, then on return 1h 35 min in Singapore then 4 h in Melbourne waiting for flight to Hobart. Have Dragonpass so was going to load up on passes to use on the trip. Hubby is flying as well 3 days later but instead of going to Chennai he is going to coughet so need to buy him passes as well.

Dragonpass can get you into the Plaza Premium, Marhaba or House lounges in T2 when you’re flying out.

They won’t be practical to use coming back as you’ll need to collect bags and go through customs on arrival.

Anyway on arrival in AU do not have access to the T2 international departures area where those lounges are.

Dragonpass allows you to choose from the Plaza Premium, Marhaba and The House lounges at T2 in Melbourne I think. Based on my experience last week, I wouldn't recommend Marhaba - it was fairly busy, the food was poor quality (with the exception being the vanilla ice cream), and the whole place just seemed generally unremarkable. This is in contrast to my previous visit a few years ago, when they used to offer things like made to order noodles.

The House seems to offer better quality food (but a smaller selection) and I sort of regret not going there instead.

The House you need to cough up extra for the good food and grog still don’t you?
Nice lounge though

Do you need to cough up extra if you’re happy with pleb food and booze?

Yes that's what both dragonpass and priority pass say, but some recent reports seemed to suggest that the extra charging thing no longer exists (and there's no longer an a la carte menu available anymore either apparently - not sure if one drove the other to happen?

Does anyone know what champagne (if any) is served in The House?

Well I choose the House at Melbourne for my first ever lounge visit. I must say I was underwhelmed by it. Great big space with seating and power which was great but the food side of it was not so good.
The dishes were 3 salads, not very appealing and 3 hot dishes, the first a beef dish, forget what they called it, the next was plain rice and the third was a pasta dish penne with a bolognaise type sauce. That was it! A stand with half a dozen small bits of cake. Two types of biscuits and coffee. Don’t know what I was expecting but something more.

Unfortunately the Marhaba lounge was similar, with very low quality slop being served - party pies with less filling than the ones you can get from a supermarket, plus maybe around 6-7 dishes that are very much of shopping centre food court quality. Especially disappointing because I know they're capable of much more - their pre-covid offering was far better than this.

I did the House a couple of weeks ago (using PP) and thought the buffet was fine. Certainly, the spicy lamb casserole was being turned over enough to be fresh and tasty (perhaps because I was on the QR flight that left about the same time as the EY flight - the lounge cleared out once the EY flight was called to board).

I could’ve paid the $20 for the a la carte dining (consisting of soup, risotto and panna cotta) but decided against it as I thought that the offerings available were adequate.

I thought that only 2 main meals was a bit sad. I don’t count the salads as it was mainly bits of some kind of lettuce with a bit of carrot etc.
