Hi,

Not sure if specific to this route, but when I search a return flight, at first it would show the direct flights VA25 and VA26. IF I choose an economy fare for outbound, after that that when selecting the inbound, the economy fare becomes unavailable but business is still available. The same scenario happens when I select economy for outbound. Anyone knows why?

Also, its says flights subject to government approval. Does anyone know any more news on this?

The "subject to government approval" message is completely normal for new routes and is not something to be concerned about.

The other issue with Virgin's website is a little bizarre. Are you able to book 2x one-way flights for the "correct" price?

Its either their fare pairing rules, (price gouging), or its that Y is fully booked.
Does it appear for every day that you choose to fly back to Aust?
As for fare pairing, its not unusual, lots of airlines do it.
What they do is have a cheap one way Y, and then then the return sector can cost a lot more.
OT, ANA SYD - HND is like this, they charge very cheap discJ fare SYD - HND, in the range of Aud$18xx, but then coming back, its Aud$28xx!
Similar to airlines charging a lot for one way Y/J fares on their longer sectors.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Strangely booking both direct flights in 1 booking as a return flight seems to be an option now.
