With several family members mad keen Swans members, i was offered a ticket to the GF. Let me just say, the pre-match entertainment was very enjoyable.

With seat tickets allocated to members through a ballot, booking ahead presents challenges. So I looked at tickets using QFF points. Just a refresher of what the categories are:

And when I saw this offer, or similar, for both forward and return journeys, why wouldn’t I book ASAP?

II’ll add the trip details shortly.

So for 55 200 points return, I flew J BNE-SYD-MEL Coming home was MEL-CBR-BNE, also in J. Maybe the work experience kid entered the points required, and forgot a digit???
Why fly direct when you can connect?

BNE-SYD QF547 A good condition 737-800NG.
The meal was chicken with creamy parmesan sauce. One small slice of sourdough. wine was topped up and coffee served. Departure seemed to be delayed because of insufficient room for cabin bags on this full flight. Cabin crew were professional, friendly and attentive.

QF493 SYD-MEL was a battle weary 737-800 also. Departure delayed about 30 minutes due to late inbound aircraft. Meal choices were braised beef and mashed potato or a roast chicken and quinoa salad. Two slices of bread this time. The mashed potatoes had the look and texture of clag glue, and likely the same flavour. Due to the flight making up time, and the slowness of service to row 3, our trays were cleared away the second we finished with any remaining wine, no refills, offered, returned in a plastic tumbler. No coffee served. Seemed like the crew had had a long shift. Professional but not engaging.

QF1510 MEL-CBR 717-200 operated by National Jet.
Light pax load. Meal was pumpkin omelette with sautéed potatoes with bacon scrappy bits. No bread or pastry but a tasty Greek yoghurt. Personable and efficient crew.

Connecting to QF1904 CBR-BNE Embraer 190 operated by Aliiance.

A really efficient, friendly and personable cabin manager. I will definitely leave her feedback. Once again no choice of meal which the CSM said was unusual. Cheese and chives omelette with bacon rashers, cooked tomato halves, spinach and a chutney/relish accompaniment, along with a mildly sweet muffin. This flight was delayed 30 minutes due to a faulty sensor in the main cabin door giving an error message that the door wasn’t sealed. I think this happened prior to leaving the previous port as the terminal monitors explained it as ”late inbound aircraft”. All in all, the meals reminded me of what Y service was like 5-10 years ago, but this trip I had leg room and got referred to by name.
