For some reason, the fares Melb - LAX in October are relatively high. I expected high fares in Sept for school holidays, but I guess Qantas expects lots of people to take US trips in Oct.

We have booked a cruise so our travel dates are set. For the last few months QF website has been quoting $2255 return. Since the Grand Prix sale, fares dropped to $2,007. Frustratingly, the fares in Sept and November are $1299.

What would you do? - would you take the plunge or hold out for a better sale? I note the fares for the June school holidays are still $2250+. In the past we have found October a cheaper time to travel.

Buy now, otherwise it will get more and more expensive. IMO $2k is still cheap for what you are doing, flying 16hours each way.

Strange that sept is cheap and oct expensive..??

Normally it's oct - nov that's on special and typically the cheapest two months of the year for that route.

I would buy now - especially if your dates are fixed.

October is US IT vendor trade show and conference month so October is normally expensive I thought.

Expedia is advertising QF on 10 Oct back 20 Oct for $2037

The last few years have had the period approx. Oct 13'ish to December 7'ish (whatever the weekend dates are) as the cheapest time of the year for ex-Aus to LAX routes.

Followed by Feb/Mar calendar months.

September is usually not on special.

IIRC this has been the norm for several years now.

End of october is halloween, its is very very big in LA, parties are a weekend before 31, it is worth being there just to see it

Delta have some wicked deals for November about, 1.1k return MEL LAX, extra $100 for JFK but return is early Jan.

Thanks for the input guys. Took the plunge last night $2,007 return Leaving Oct returning Nov.
