Hi everyone,

A bit short notice I know but I am looking to fly home to Manchester (or London if that's a lot cheaper / easier) on roughly 23rd June (dates flexible as long as I am home before 29th June) returning via Singapore. I need to be in Singapore for the 18th July and can spend one / two days there either side.

I have 50,000 Velocity points but am unfortunately a lowly red status :(

I noticed Kris Flyer (whom I am a member with) are doing this promotion - https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/ppsclub_krisflyer/sg50redemptionpromo-may15/ - could this help?

No preference on airline, or where I have to stop off, it's all part of the adventure for me :)

Thanks heaps guys looking forward to seeing the responses!

Not perfect, but can get:

MEL-MAN departing on 23 june.
DUB-SIN departing 17jul all with etihad for 1560. found this on the STA website

by departing from dublin, you avoid the UK APD which is fairly hefty. can get to dub with 10pound+luggage fare with ryanair.

and then can get:

sin-mel (10hours in kul) departing 21st jul, arriving morning of 22nd for $375 including luggage with airasia.

should work out to be just under 2000.

How about:

23/6 - Jetstar MEL --> BKK $599 (book on Jetstar site)
24/6 - Lufthansa BKK--> MAN (via FRA) ) $1040
16/7 - Lufthansa MAN --> SIN (via FRA ) (book on Expedia.com.au)
20/7 - SIN - PER - MEL, 49300 points and $214 (book on virgin australia site)

Total under AUD $1900, but will probably require an overnight in Bangkok. A few tweaks (e.g. Fly to BKK the next day) could save a little bit of money.

Another approach is MEL->SIN return - About $870 on Royal Brunei, followed by Qatar for about $1000. Long stops though with this route in Brunei and possibly Doha too. There are a lot of variations on this, using Scoot / Air Asia / Jetstar to Singapore and Malaysian / Etihad etc ex. SIN

Both of these approaches really require an overnight stop on the way to Manchester. Bangkok will be the cheaper stop. The reason for this is with separate tickets you take the risk in the event of delays to the first flight.

Thanks Murray, not sure if I'm missing something obvious but the cheapest I can get the MEL-MAN / DUB-SIN flights for is $1877??

The cheapest I can find the BKK--> MAN / MAN --> SIN flight is $1,336 :(

Hi Sarah

I checked all the flights before I posted, but that was 4 days ago, fares change quickly :(

If you can find a few more Velocity points, you can get to Manchester for 53100 points + about $100 on the 20th and 24th of June.

Coming back to Oz, Etihad MAN-SIN on the 14th of July is GBP418 (AUD840). Then Jetstar SIN-MEL 20/7 for AUD588.

So the whole trip for about AUD1500 if you can find another 3000 points (borrow from a friend :))

The fare sold out on the 24th and the 16th. There is availability at $1040 on the 24th and 15th. Keep in mind that you're flying at the absolute peak time apart from Xmas. It is school holidays here in Oz and of course summer holidays in Europe, so fares are expensive and specials sell quite quickly.

Im seeing the same as we'll now. However, just had a look on hipmunk.com and prices seem to be roughly the same (I'm seeing 23 june/ 16 July for as low as Usd 1177 which is about aud1530) seems to be a fairly vast combination of flights you can choose from. Have a play around with dates and hopefully something will work!

Hi guys,

I still haven't booked this :(

I'm thinking my best bet is greenfish's idea of the 53,100 velocity points to manchester but I need the extra 3000 points. How exactly does one 'borrow from a friend'? I thought only immediate family could pool?

Still open to other suggestions and still offering $50 for the best one!

Thanks guys

Hey Sarah,

I don't have much idea about the Velocity program, so not sure how you can get an extra 3000 points. But it looks like the Jetstar flight SIN-MEL that greenfish suggested has also gone up about $250.

The Etihad fare I originally suggested is still available (MEL-MAN / (DUB or MAN)-SIN) for as low as $1540 out of Dublin with departures on 23June and 16July respectively. I searched these on Hipmunk and it took me to priceline to book. I can also see an award seat on SQ from SIN-MEL on 20July for about 40k points and $90.

Hope this helps!

Just had a proper look at the award flight and its not SQ at all! Combination of Silk Air and VA. Sorry about that

Or to get under 50,000 velocity points, you could get a revenue fare to Perth (~$300), and then an award ticket PER-MAN - there are seats on the 22nd and 24th of June.

For the return,
MAN - SIN (via BRU + BOM) on Jet Airways. Depart 16th a.m., arrive 17th a.m.
SIN - MEL with QF.

Cost for return ticket = $1465 - found through Hipmunk

murrayc26, are you sure your hipmunk fares aren't in USD? That Jet flight on hipmunk comes in at over AUD920, then arond 720SGD on QF for SIN-MEL, and the original 300AUD or so over to Perth, proably more like AUD1900 I think.

Still a good fare and I like your lateral thinking of flying out of Perth.

If booked as one multi-city ticket comes in at USD$1115 which is about AU$1450 today!

Hi guys,

Finally booked my flight home, managed to get the extra points for the MEL-MAN reward seat, an absolute bargain in my opinion so thank you to greenfish for pointing that out.

The flight back to MEL via SIN is still up in the air (pun intended) but I'm leaning more toward flying out of Dublin at the moment so may have to split the $50 between greenfish and murray :)

Pleased to hear you got the flight up, that's great. If you do decide to send some money to me, please just donate to Muscular Dystrophy - in your name so you can claim it in your tax return. PM me and I'll give you the details.

What are your ideal dates in Singapore - would you like to arrive on the 17th, departing on the 19th, or would you like more time either side of the 18th?
