Hi all,

Just after seeing the review of the new A330 Y, I thought I'd put my thoughts down on the new A330 J class.

First of all it's rare enough that I get to be among the first in this group to try a new plane offering, it's unheard of that my trial of the new offering is in J :p

So I was in seat 7F, it's in the funny little "private cabin" behind the bulkhead just before Y. The area itself was very private, given it was only 1 row at the windows and 2 rows in the center.

So having both direct aisle access and the window seat at the same time was pretty good. The seat itself was very comfortable, it did take a little bit of stuffing around to get the seat into the most comfortable position.

The screen is massive, and I liked that the moving map could be brought up and hidden with a single button press, rather than the 10 different buttons it typically takes on the other aircraft types.

It wasn't the most private seat in the cabin (seats 7F and 8E were, both had direct aisle access, and they both have privacy screens on each side).

Of course the service was what was to be expected from QF, although I did get the feeling that we where perhaps a little forgotten about hiding inside the mini cabin.

I only have two complaints,

1. The fully flat bed mode the seat gets very low to the floor, and you can't really adjust the screen to point low enough to be able to see it, so unlike on the skybed mkII's where it's possible to watch a movie in bed, in the new business suites you're either watching a movie, or sleeping.

2. The range of content available on the AVOD is pretty limited. They only had "premier" movies, and none of them really interested me (I picked one which was ok). I guess that I was expecting something more like the B747 / A380 movie offerings.

I guess the other complaint I'd have is that there is no price or points difference between this plane, and ones with the "ex-JQ" J. The Business suite cost me 10,000 points for MEL-PER, and the "ex-JQ" J seat cost me 10,000 points coming back, despite the fact it was chalk and cheese (and no, that just means the 2-"3"-2 J seats should be cheaper), although that complaint will disappear as more and more suites come online.

All in all I'd be rating it a 4.5 / 5.

nice -

good to see they are being used on the Mel-Per leg

I fly this route a lot in J and the plane varies from really old and coughpy, to just old and no bed to old bed (which i have only managed to get once in about 15 flights)

hopefully get the new layout soon !
