Mel-Paris (via Vietnam Both ways)

Just Got this Booked for myself & my daughter (18, so 2 x Adult fares).
25/11 MEL-SGN (VN)
29/11 SGN- CDG (AF)
05/01 CGD-HAN (VN)
10/01HAN-MEL (VN)

First time in Europe (& Vietnam for that matter) - No hurry to get there or come back hence the long stopovers in both Ho Chi Min & Hanoi.

$4187 for 2 pax - thought not too bad for whats essentially peak sesason.

Found the flights via Google flights, but the VN website wasn't playing ball & kept trying to charge me $1K more (in Dong!).. Eventually used a diff browser, went incognito AND used skyscanner for the same flights, and that link then took me back through to VN with the correct pricing! Now to figure out what we're going to do there

Best place for NYE suggestions welcomed! Visiting wishlist so far is Greece, Italy, UK, France, Scandinavia, with other countries if we feel like stopping on the way through to somewhere else. Most internal EU travel will just be trains, or flights if they are reasonable - we're not in any hurry though.

Should be fun! No agenda apart from to experience it & see some of the history!

If you're in Paris for NYE don't go to the Eiffel Tower expecting fireworks. It's a mistake many tourists make (not helped by the myriad of people who post photos of fireworks at the Eiffel Tower from 14 July when promoting Paris for NYE). The fireworks and light show are at the Arc de Triomphe with a massive street party down the Champs Élysées. It'll be crowded, very crowded, but fun.

Have a look at the Eurail site and if you wish, purchase a rail pass. The Seat 61 site is also excellent.

Why fly within Europe when rail is excellent, and allows you to see far more?

Austrian Railways (OBB) operate a huge and growing network of 'NightJet' trains with sleeping compartments and couchettes (plus seats). A good way to experience night travel.

And also consider whether eurail is the best option. Can be pretty cheap to buy single tickets, even in first class or sleeper services, provided you book in advance.
