Hey Guys, we are planning to spend the Christmas holidays in Italy, ideally from mid Dec to mid-Jan. Flights are to the roof at the moment. Do you know what`s the best way/stopover to reduce the cost? Happy to spend a week on our way back somewhere to reduce the flight costs and on the way day a couple of nights somewhere. I have tried plenty of combination with no luck! Thanks all!

Look at cheap flights to Asia and then grab some of the great Business fares from there to Europe.
Jakarta to Rome for example can be sub $3.5k on Qatar and Finnair likewise has good deals out of Bangkok to Europe.
You could get Economy flights on Qantas or Garuda for probably under $1000 from Melbourne or look at award flights to/from Asia.
Also consider flying into other Europe ports that may be cheaper and then getting a cheap flight or train to Italy

Welcome to AFF

First of all what is your budget?.

As cheap as possible :-) The whole family flying hence cannot afford first class. I have noticed flights are around $2.5k to $3k thus I was trying to see if there was a way to reduce it to $2k or at least add a stopover somewhere at the same price.

Are website like expedia, bestpricetravel, globehunters, auntbetty and so on safe to use or better to spend a bit more and go to the airline website?
