MEL-HNL - best way to earn SC's & points

Hi All,

I'm not very good at "playing the game"!...so I thought I would get some experts to help me out.

I am planning a trip to Hawaii with the wife in March next year before the bub arrives in June, and I'm trying to work out which is the best way to plan it so I can get some good SC's and FF points.

I'm a QP Silver at the moment and will have around 150,000 pts to burn.

Would prefer JASA of course to make the most of it, but their search reveals a Classic award is not available for J, and the ASA quote is 700K pts for J with 300K minimum!!

Any suggestions would be great...even if I have to fly a partner that would be fine.

Pay for Business Max on Jetstar if no JASA availability. 240 SCs (from memory). Can get it for around $2000 on sale.

Also look at Air Pacific via Nadi in J. Book return to NAN separately to NAN-HNL. That way you get to pay in FJD for the second leg, which normally works out cheaper than booking from AUS all the way.

280SCs total. Never seen the Business Max that cheap, good on you if you did. Best I've seen is circa $3k. I've seen $2k for the non-point/SC earning (be careful of that).

Just checked, Boris is correct..jetstar site has J max starter at 4k return for 2...might wait for promo if it comes around as this seems to be an ordinary fare.

Mine re $3k was return for Business Max, based on recent history. Not sure re March though.

OP says he must go at certain time March so has no option. Forget J on QA andJQ far to expensive in points or $, go Y and do a status run or weekend away later somewhere else.

Ps, Mrs Lime and self are going QA CNS/SYD/HNL 1st march for a week.

Thats an extrordinary amount of $$ to fly JQ Starclass to Hawaii, as you say the QF option is even more unreal. If I valued my $$ and FFpts/SC I would be looking at alternatives to Hawaii. I know its really nice in Hawaii but due to demand I think flying to Hawaii is probably the worst value destination of just about anywhere in the world right now...

Air Pacific may be an option, I assume you have looked at Air New Zealand options and Hawaiian Airlines options. At those QF and JQ prices I would be starting to look elsewhere....

I have noticed promos for the cheaper business fare, no frills etc, however not the max.

Do agree its gotta be a promo deal to get me on there.
