Hi, I am travelling Mel-Fra return in Feb 11, and the company TA has offerred both the straight QF option (via Sin) and the SQ Mel-Sin/LH Sin-Fra option. Travel is for work and in J. QF is over $2k more expensive, so I feel I should take the SQ/LH option (but not forced to). I am WP, so get the usual perks when flying QF (check-in, FLounge, op-up chance etc), plus will assist with the requal to WP for next year (not a major concern, will have plenty of other flights most likely) and provides good points.

I like the SQ J seat/IFE, but have not flown LH long haul J for quite awhile, so not sure what it is like. I have not been in the SQ J lounge in Sin lately, but believe it is better than the QF Flounge there? Is there a LH lounge in Sin? I assume the LH J lounge in Fra would have to be better than the CX/QF J lounge there?

Timings are similar, but slightly more transit time with the SQ/LH option. I am also flying Fra-Tgl with LH once there.

What are your thoughts on this?

The big one here is LH J from SIN to FRA. It sucks. The slope beds on a QF 747 are much nicer than ones on an LH 747.

I would assume that the MEL-SIN leg would be on a QF or SQ A380 so both have nice products.

Can you get SQ the whole way to FRA?

I would be going QF as you get F lounge in MEL. How about MEL-LHR on QF then connecting to TXL on BA?

Thanks. Yes, MEL-LHR on QF A380 would be my preference, but I don't deal with the TA, just get offerred the choices they suggest (not sure how/why they come up with them, but its a global arrangement with the TA, so not much I can do about it).

Don't like the sound of the LH beds much, but last time I flew LH long haul they didn't even have beds, so that is an improvement.

Unless anyone else has different ideas on the lounges/beds, I will swallow my cost saving morals and go with the QF option .

QF will have 1 flight per day - SQ/LH has 3 flights per day.

For flexibility and convenience (if a QF flight is delayed/cancelled), I'd go SQ.

QF have one flight a day to FRA but there are another 5 flights to LHR then the Finnair flight to HEL. If your FRA direct is cancelled you are not out of options with oneworld.

QF have one flight a day between MEL-SIN. SQ have 3 flights per day.
Performing a transit via LHR or SYD is generally considered the most cruel of fates........
