A real question and it appears that the ownership is murky at best. The last registered owner was John Pascoe Fawkner who founded the first white settlement in what is now Melbourne.

Why does it matter? Well until ownership is sorted out then a planned expansion at MEL AP is stopped.

This story was broken on 3AWs rumour file.

Mystery surrounds the ownership of a parcel of land needed for the expansion of Melbourne Airport.

The government plans to acquire the land west of the airport, but they it’s not clear who they need to pay.

There is also a story behind the Herald-Sun paywall.
