MEL-AKL-MEL on EK – if you could only do F in one direction which would you choose?

Re: MEL-AKL-MEL on EK – if you could only do F in one direction which would you choos

Am thinking about doing same thing this winter, and noticed the big tax differences.
For MEL - AKL, 2 F tickets will cost $191.62 (AUD) while on the way back it's only $100.88 (NZD).

Re: MEL-AKL-MEL on EK – if you could only do F in one direction which would you choos

Does the question really need to be asked??

Obviously AKL-MEL is better, longer flight time, and it's a dinner service. If you prefer a shorter flight with breakfast you must be mad?

Completely agree. On such a short flight it's all about the f&b. Hard to be impressed with breakfast, even in first class. The dinner menu is far more impressive and EK have some of the best alcohol selection in the air.

I'm doing AKL - BNE in March. I plan on getting to the Emirates Lounge mid afternoon. Maximise the experience. After F in the 777(?) I'm looking forward to the A380.

I will also be reaching SG part way during the flight. Think I'll have a Dom to celebrate. :p

Make sure you try the Hennessy Paradis if they still have it :)

Congrats on the upcoming SG :)
Don't expect too much of the EK AKL lounge. When we were there last month it was an absolute zoo
Single seats only, dining area totally full. Shrek and son took off to the QF F Lounge for some peace and a seat !!

Being the most expensive drink served by any airline (so I heard) I was looking forward to trying it but unfortunately it was recently replaced by a cheaper option (although the Paradis is still on the menu).

Had a chat with the CSM about it and she said some regular guests were disappointed and complained about it. I loved the Prive but never tried the Paradis before so can't compare.

Obviously as a result of the oil price slump

I agree with PF. I suggest getting there early to secure your seats. It might pay to check how many EK departures are scheduled to maximise your chance of good seats. We arrived bang on 3 hours prior which proved to be a good strategy. As the afternoon progressed; so to the frequency of announcements to remove baggage from seats to allow other pax to sit. The frustration of people's faces was evident.

I have a bottle in my drinks cupboard. It is rather nice :)

There is no variation to the number of EK departures scheduled, there is 3 x A380's every night to BNE/SYD/MEL, all within an hour of eachother. The variation in lounge 'business' is purely based on the passenger loads for the day, if the flights are full the lounge is chaos.

Re: MEL-AKL-MEL on EK – if you could only do F in one direction which would you choos

I am soon to fly SYD - BNE in F on points in one day to cross off 3 items on my bucket list - fly on an A380, fly in first and to shower at xx,000 feet (why fly direct when you can connect) I looked at J one way to reduce the points cost but it was no cheaper with same day segments....... I think that anyone thinking about flying F to AKL on a day trip play around with multi city options instead of standard returns.

Wouldn't two one-ways do the trick?

I'm just recommending people explore a different trick on these same day classic award flights.

Agreed, poorly articulated on my end.
