Airport rakes in car revenue -The Age

MELBOURNE Airport expects car parking charges to amount to almost 20 per cent of its income this financial year, almost double that at Sydney Airport.

Any wonder I have not parked on-airport (free ring and ride excepted) for years.

Not surprised. Family member picked me up last Saturday and was in the carpark for just over an hour and it cost $24!

Ring and Ride may be for them then! See here for details. It's poorly signed (well, was when I used it) on the ground, but once in the LTCP and in the vicinity of Ring&Ride I just found a park and waited - ~35 minutes and $2 charge. I'm not sure there is anything to prevent you from exiting every 19 minutes and doing a lap and re-entering if needs be, (zero charge) but have not tried it.

If staying at the Melbourne Parkroyal parking is free "while you check in" , just follow the signs to the left of the short term parking entrance
