Has anyone used the SmarteCarte luggage storage facilities at MEL airport?

Apparently its on the Ground Floor of the International Terminal.

$10 for hand luggage.

Has anyone had any difficulties with this service? Is it secure?

thanks

I've used it a few times, usually when I've made a day trip to Sydney at the last minute and then gone international from Mel.

It's fine, a bit tricky to find. There is a phone next to the office area that you ring if it is unattended.

Are there individual lockers? Do we get to keep a key or something?

The MEL Airport website only states:

A luggage storage facility is available at Melbourne Airport through SmarteCarte.

Rates are per 24 hours per piece:
- Hand luggage $10
- Suitcase/Backpack/Golf bags $14
- Skis/Bicycles/surfboards $20

Located in T2 Arrivals, SmarteCarte operates from 5am to 12.30am, 7 days a week. Photo ID is required for storage. (If desk is unattended at any time, pick up phone located at the desk).

No, it's a man with a secure storage area. You get a receipt and pay when you collect. It's the same man who looks after the trolleys.

Sounds like the setup is like a hotel conceirge..

Is it safe to leave a laptop bag with no locks?

thanks

I've seen the same system used in SYD T1 & T3, HKG.

Very few lockers anymore.

FWIW, it's like leaving you bags with a Hotel concierge, and hopefully as secure.
