Meal times onboard

Had a look on the website today and now
there are only 3 options; Child, Diabetic or Vegetarian. For all other
special requests, call your Qantas Office. Looks like Qantas are cost cutting again?
Interesting. I thought Low Fat meal existed as an option last time I looked.

So does this change mean that we have to call Qantas to request special meal for every booking in the system?

Yep. Anything but the 3 options it now gives you, you need to ring up for. I wonder if that's why call centre queues have been longer than usual

Previously requested the Low Fat Meal for a change from Spag Bol and
Rissoles on the evening flights. Had a look on the website today and now

Cost cutting, well sort of it must be a pain to have to deal with so many requests, i do feel for them, it must cost a lot more and takes a lot more time and people are usually well annoyed if they stuff it up.

I'm pretty sure you can still order them, just needs to be over the phone. So not really many changes.. just making it harder to do with a few clicks :(

I was disappointed to see the OVO-Lacto choice has gone from QF vegetarian menus too. It's now only a vegan choice which could be pretty bland. Will have to call them and see if I can get the usual meal. In the past these have been excellent quality and far better than the meals the carnivores get! :) Even if it does spark the inevitable question from the passenger next to me..."are you a vegetarian....and why is that...and don't you find it hard....and you have to be careful about getting enough iron you know...."
Just let me eat already!

The gluten free is still an option if you phone. Anything to stop the wife from farting!!! if you want real choicethen you need to book SQ J and "book the chef" my 2 year old had great scrambled eggs and crepes from brekky the other day!

Has anyone noticed how long the meals are left out after they have been served?
The last few times l have done long haul l noticed that meals are served and it's at least an HOUR before crew come around to pick up the empties.
This is starting to get really annoying IMO. I have got up and wondered down the rear of the aircraft only to see the crew talking and not really giving a s&*t about it.
Anyone else?

I have had a low fat meal order in my QF profile for about 10 years now. Usually on international flights for breakfast, low fat meal = steamed fish (in both J and Y).

Other than that, it's usually pretty good, especially the chicken curry with rice. Also enjoyed yummy poached eggs and spiced mushrooms for breakfast the other day going to Perth.

What I really hate is when fellow passengers start pointing at my food and discussing it amongst themselves as if I can't hear them.

I thought that a low fat breakfast would consist of a reduced sugar cereal with skim milk. I'm not sure what QF's idea of a low sugar cereal would be - I'm assuming they're not exactly on the Weetbix bandwagon.

Sounds good for low fat grub - really surprising....

Now why would they do that? You could always tell them "the secret"... :)
