The Sunshine Coast Council is putting an EIS together for the MCY Expansion Project and is asking for input

Survey - Sunshine Coast Council

Not sure if anyone can provide input or only local residents

The survey there is only part of the EIS, for whatever reason they need it for. I suspect there are no controls over it, so whoever is going to synthesise the data may take into account details such as postcode / suburb of the submitter. Of course, these details could be bogus, but I suppose they are hoping that chance will be low.

Local residents will only have input to the EIS if they are called upon by the proponents preparing the EIS. Naturally they should be contacted as part of the process, otherwise a submission later may force them to revisit this process anyway to revise the EIS.

Once the EIS is released, anyone can make a submission for consideration by the Minister (or delegate) - you don't have to be a local resident.

About the Airport Expansion Project
Following on from its 2007 Master Plan and the lodgement of relevant project documentation with the Queensland and Australian Governments in 2010/11, Sunshine Coast Airport will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the airport expansion project during 2012.
The 2007 Master Plan identified a need to expand the airport to cater for population growth, growth in regional tourism and business, and community need for improved aviation services to and from the Sunshine Coast.
As the project has the potential to impact on matters of national environmental significance, the Australian Government has requested the preparation of an EIS, which will be assessed before the project is allowed to proceed. Both the Australian and Queensland Governments will be involved in the EIS assessment process.
The proposed project includes:

  • A new 2,430 metre runway, which will operate in an east/west direction. Runways are orientated on compass bearings. On this basis, the runway direction is also described as 13/31
  • New terminal for passenger and baggage processing, including retail facilities
  • Expansion of the existing regular public transport (scheduled jet aircraft) apron
  • Expansion of the aviation business precinct
