Does anyone know whether this itinerary would be possible? SIN-KUL arriving at 1910, then KUL-SYD departing at 1950. If I only had carry on would 40 mins be enough time to connect at kuala Lumpur? Both flights would be on Malaysian.

Practically, yes. I think from SIN you arrive at the main terminal but need to get out to the satellite, but even then 40mins is sufficent to do such. Whether you can get it ticketed with that connection time is unlikely, and I wouldn't risks such a short connection on seperate tickets.
