Hi,

Ended up having to take MAS flight to KUL from SYD, not what I wanted, but anyway... I just signed up for Enrich... and noticed this..

From my booking reference, how to know what fare type my Business Class flight is?

You will probably need to look at the actual ticket (or e-ticket receipt) to find the fare basis. The only business class fare for SYD-KUL-SYD on MH that I can find on ExpertFlyer is fare basis JDD for A$4570 which EF says books into C class, but I suspect it really is J.

After we spoke the other day I thought you would stick with QF to SIN and then take early morning flight to KL.

I suppose new experience does not hurt. How does MH compare to QF? Any upgrade to first?

Swans are playing St. Kilda at MCG on Queen's birthday weekend. Are you going? Unfortunately I am in Darwin for 5 days that week. Would have been a good match to see live. Darn!

BTW, I think you now need an avatar! I can think of a few but may not be appropriate. :p

JohnK,

Well best I could do was to get a QF CGK-SYD, I have as much chance as an upgrade on MAS SYD-KUL as I do on CGK-SYD with Qantas (think about it).

I tried

Depart: Sydney, Australia (SYD) QF41 Sun, 11 Jun 3:05pm
Arrive: Jakarta, Indonesia (CGK) Sun, 11 Jun 7:40pm Total travel time: 7hrs 35min
then...
Depart: Jakarta, Indonesia (CGK) EK 349 Sun, 11 Jun 8:30pm
Arrive: Singapore (SIN) Sun, 11 Jun 11:15pm Total travel time: 1hr 45min
then...
Depart: Singapore (SIN) MH 602 Mon, 12 Jun 6:50am
Arrive: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (KUL) Mon, 12 Jun 7:50am Total travel time: 1hr 00min

My push was for using CGK as the Asian hub, in order to avoid costs associated with the splitting of to/from ticket. Advised that Transit time in CGK needs to be more than 1 hour, and 50 mins didn't qualify...

Having said that, you have got me thinking ...tick tick.hum..tick..hum..whirrr..

My wife's brother is a pilot for MAS, I might see what strings he can pull?

Bets anyone? Do pilots (not flying the plane) have any sway in upgrading "family"?

JohnK,

I got an "avator" .

Any guesses from anyone as to which International Airport this is?

JohnK, please don't provide the correct answer 2 nano seconds after my post ;-)

OK, a little more than 2 nano seconds but I would hazard a guess and say that it is Pattaya International Airport.

Flying Malaysian business class Syd/KL/Heathrow/ Frankfurt. Does anyone know whether there is a lounge a Heathrow?

As indicated by their website there are Golden Lounges available in London and Frankfurt.

There is...and very nice I found it too. Not a lot of food but a great bar service and, at the far end, a nice view of the runway. An absolute haven compared to the chaos of T3.

Note that MH does not fly LHR-FRA. So I assume you are flying on some other carrier for that segment. So the existence of an MH lounge at LHR may not help you for that flight.

Golden Club Lounge Access in KUL

I'm flying SYD-KUL in Business and connecting KUL-SIN in Economy - am I entitled to use the lounge in KUL? Do I show my Business boarding pass?

Thanks!

No, you will not be entitled to lounge access in KUL. The fact that you travelled previously in business class does not get you into the lounge when departing in economy.

I believe with Enrich you can buy a lounge access using points, so that may be an option.

I think you are allowed to use the KUL lounge 'on arrival'

From:

Malaysia Airlines - Golden Lounge#

Golden Lounge Satellite is open to departing, arriving and transit passengers. Golden Lounge Domestic is open to departing and passengers in transit. Other Golden Lounges are open for departing passengers only.

Alternatively, could you upgrade your KUL-SIN flight to F and access the F lounge that way? KUL-SIN o/w in F is only about $220 IIRC.

Thanks for all the replies...

It's been about 6 years that I last went to KLIA - which lounge would I need to go to - is it the Satellite lounge?

Unfortunately the type of ticket I'm on is special prize ticket that can't be upgraded to F for the KUL-SIN-KUL sectors...

If I can't access the lounge KLIA is still a nice airport from memory - so the 2 hour transit will be fine...

Ahh, it would indeed seem to be an exception and that the KUL lounge can be used by the arriving pax in this situation.

I wish I knew this last week!
We arrived from a SIN-KUL shuttle (those kitschy F seats!) into KUL, staying at the airside hotel and a nightcap or two and a snack would have been great, considering the lounge is just upstairs of the hotel.

FYI it's not a bad option - F to KUL, drinks, snack & internet access etc before hitting the hard mattress in the hotel room. Even better if you can access it for coffee and a snack in the early morning.

And of course F on the shuttle gets you into the right hand side of the lounge ;) .
