Would really increase the footprint in Australia.

A report in The Australian speculated that hotel giant Marriott International is one of the various parties circling Mantra in preparation for a takeover bid, tipped to be around the $1 billion mark.

Mantra have denied this but Marriott a few weeks ago poached a Mantra executive to be it's Senior Director of Development for Australia,NZ and the Pacific.

Having access to Mantra through SPG would be nice...

If true that would go some way to explaining their recent share market volatility!

Would certainly make gaining status more easy in Australia.

Would assume many mantra properties would slot into the SpringHill and TownePlace brands and possibly Fairfield inn and Residence Inn brands - although don't think the 'Inn' translates well in Australia.

Could also be a rumour by someone trying to get out of the stock
