Marriott International is tapping into strong demand in Western Sydney with the signing of its first Marriott Hotel in Parramatta.

Under an agreement with property developers JQZ, a 279-room new build premium hotel will be introduced as part of a large-scale mixed-use development on Church Street in the CBD.

Slated to open in mid-2027, the Sydney Marriott Hotel Parramatta will be the fifth Marriott Hotels and Resorts property in Australia, and the second in New South Wales.

“The signing of Sydney Marriott Hotel Parramatta marks Marriott Hotel’s debut in Parramatta, a city experiencing significant public and private investment as it evolves into Sydney’s second CBD,” said Marriott International Vice President – Developments, ANZP, Richard Crawford.

Officially 57-83 Church Street, was known as South Quarter Parramatta and now One City Square Parramatta. This site has a checked history since at least 2016. The original developer Dyldam (Fayad and Khattar families) went into administration in 2021, and have phoenixed as Ellerson Property. JQZ (Jian Qiu Zhang) picked up the site for less than Dyldam originally paid for it, and this is not the first ex-Dyldam site they have purchased.

87 Church Street (Genesis car showroom) opposite the GWH will also be developed. If the whole lot ever gets built then that part of Church Street will become a very apartment heavy wind tunnel.

Public exhibition for the revised proposal only closed recently:

It would be great to see more options in the geographical center of Sydney.

High building costs seem to be holding a lot of businesses back at the moment though, I hope they can get it built.
