468.75usd for 50k Marriott points through May 15.

60k needed for 3:1 transfer with 5k bonus to airline miles.

Anyone buying?

I'll have to run some numbers. I used to use this in the SPG days for SQ & top up from VA/AMEX/SQ.

I got the email too.

Has Marriott ever run a discount 'buy point' sale before?

Not buying unless there is a plan (you seem to have one) for a quick redemption over to air miles. With the USD$ forex it is not good value unless you have a specific redemption in mind. That said, I have a feeling Marriott will never run a better offer than this (SPG used to do way better offers) ...though would be delighted if they did!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Maybe just testing the waters as it's their first?

I was pleased to see the bonus offer, as I don't think Marriott has a history of it (?), but SPG did

Not me, works out to be AU$0.013 cent per Marriott point. During last 1-2 years of SPG, could have gotten easily for AU$0.011

I don't expect to see anything like the SPG offers from Marriott but I also wonder if they're testing the waters. I may just buy for my account and leave partners account free to buy again if another promo comes up.

Basically it's like buying SQ J through to Asia and using points for the rest. They'll always get used within 3yrs. Suspect Thailand will be the next destination with SQ, hopefully next year. It's my favourite Asian food!

The current offer ia only good for a specific redemption in mind to book now or near future. Previously 30-40% SPG points with better exchange rates were good enough to buy now especially when converting to Marriot Travel Packages.

We have never stayed anywhere for 7 nights. Always on the go! Would have been better if we could break the stays up into 3 and 4 nights. Haven't found a destination we would stay put for 7 nights yet.

If you funnel Marriott through to airlines then your only risk is airline devaluation and 'generally' there's a bit of warning to pull the trigger. I have a reasonable idea of the routes for SQ J at 58k. The cost would be 700 nzd which is far cheaper than the true cost or even a further devaluation by SQ. The remaining 33k points would come from other earned programmes.

The points are flexible as well so keeping them in your Marriott account pending any devaluations means you can shuffle them to other Airline accounts although I can't see myself using them for anything else.

I've just remembered that I have points in my account, expiring in June 2019. Does buying points extend the life of the points? I'm not familiar with this program.

There is another offer on as well which is double points for nights on the second and subsequent stays I think it is, anyway it’s not on the first stay.

There's a couple of other ways you can prevent expiry as well:
- Hertz car rental booking via Marriott here
- Dining without staying earns points in Asia Pacific although I haven't tested this one out myself here. Kind of new.
- the obvious hotel night
- activities here. You can search something local maybe or even just buy something cheap like a tour for 12AUD. You can set the price, currency, destination etc.
- there's a shopping portal.
- Transferring them to airlines counts as a redemption and keeps them alive as well.

Hi all,
I’m relatively new to the points business but have managed to Send through my Amex points to KrisFlyer and am short for either 2x buisness Rtw or 2 x business Europe redemption. Is this a good way to add points to SQ ? I have 2 plans; 1) Europe at the end of the year or/and 2) Buenos Aires in July next year and then to Europe. I’m wondering what’s the best strategy? Alternatively I could buy Alaskan points at 50% bonus to do some of the traveling we want to do. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas offered.

How many KrisFlyer miles short are you? Keep in mind that Marriott has a relatively low annual purchase limit.

Another way to top up your KrisFlyer miles could be to buy Velocity points and then transfer them over. You'd have to work out which method is better value.

I have about 225k now and another 110k if transferring from amplify or my Bank of Melbourne.

You'd only be able to earn ~17k extra SQ miles per year by buying Marriott points, so that will still leave you well short for 2x J awards to Europe (or 2x RTWs). I wouldn't bother.
