Hi,

Has anyone been a member of this or been to the 90 minute "this is not a timeshare" presentation, and weighed up its value.

I just did one yesterday and my initial assessment was that it wouldnt fit my holiday patterns and was designed to get you despite the initial investment to spend more and more when you work out that what you initially bought wouldn't get you enough to cover the stays that you want

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Popeye

its not for everyone... it works for some but not others...
i suggest stay away unless you know you can make it work.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Mostly it is not a good idea.We were lucky buying a timeshare from Hilton Grand Vacations-at least they were honest and called it a timeshare. We were lucky because they released their NYC club 3 months after 9/11.We bought 2 months later as our son was starting his 7 years living in the US.After 13 years we sold it for more than our original price. However that is the exception to the rule.
Just google Marriott Vacation Club Resales and you should get a number of places selling them.If you really like a place it is usually much cheaper to buy a resale.

I will google thanks drron but does anyone have handy an unbiased 'primer' (link or existing thread) on how these work (I guess Marriott specifically) so I start off with a good understanding.

There are many types of timeshare so basically will not be one source that covers them all.You really should ask for deails from the Marriott Vacation Club. The name Marriott is only a licence from Marriott so that makes a big difference .For instance with my HGVC timeshare there were a couple of years when we could not use our points at any HGVC property.I was then able to convert those points to Hhonors points. You can't do that with the Marriott Vacation club.Apparently in the early years it was owned by Marriott and you could do this.

The Trip Advisor thread on MVC is mainly negative.

You can convert 50% of your Marriott Vacation Club point to Marriott Reward Points.
This applies to Aus Marriott Vacation Club , as USA and Asia Marriott Vacation Club have slightly diff conversion rule

If you have 1500 'Club' points (using Popeye example above) you can use then 750 points to convert o Bonvoy points ...do you know what a 'Club' point is worth i.e. how many Bonvoy points I would get?

Thanks drron ...the link you posted led me to seek out actual product documents which I found here:

They seem to have a 'fixed' and a 'variable' option ... now to delve in to the 92 pages!

!0500 Bonvoy points doesn't get you much especially now there is basically dynamic pricing for award nights
