Increasingly I travel far more on Cathay. Business SIN to HKG, some economy into China and occasional HKG to SYD.

I am Qantas platinum and lifetime Gold. There is no real benefit to accrue more status with Qantas. Flying Cathay also gives more points than accrue the points to QF.

Has anyone been given complimentary Gold or Diamond Cathay status based on their QF status?

I know of some AFFers that went to Marco Polo after fairer and simpler. The gentlemans agreement is oneworld programs won't poach their own customers but in saying that you can always try.

Try to add value when requesting a match. I won't spell it out for you however you can imagine the number of daily requests they receive and the ones that stand out.

Make certain you read the new rules that effect in April 2016 for MPC. Without a reasonable amount of business/first class flight segments, earning status will be difficult.

In other places, the consensus seems that if you have a history of CX flights (with some in business) and some business flights pending, the entry fee will be waived. Where status has been "comped" most seem to have been at the Silver level. Shortens the length of time needed to reach Gold.

Happy wandering
