I departed HKG last week on QF98. When I arrived at checkin they advised that they were doing manual processing of boarding passes and baggage tags. They handed me a letter outlining the process. The letter also advised that it was in fact a practice. The check in was a little slower but there seemed to be quite a few extra staff. Each check-in position had two staff.

It was actually good to see that they could stress test the staff.

It was also great to see that the system worked, the flight departed on time and my luggage arrived in BNE.

Cheers

My last time out of HKG on QF, was told by the check in agent that my seat had changed because the IFE wasn't working. Was put in the row behind my chosen seat. The guy sitting next to me was told the same thing.

Funny thing was that the couple sitting in the original row, who made remarks about "never having flown in Business before" got the IFE system to work the whole flight...
