Manage my booking and seat selection - what am I doing wrong?

Last year I took the status match offered by VA as it appeared that I may be using them for a few flights, but they didn't eventuate and I subsequently dropped to Gold a few months ago.

I now have a booking with them; ADL-SYD-LAX return, and I'm trying to do advanced seat selection with no success! My first flight is in 12 days time, so I'm within the 14 day window for seat selection.

My booking was made through our corporate travel agency, and I have been given my PNR (3WMxx_). I've checked in CheckMyTrip and the PNR is showing in the ADL-SYD flight next to "Confirmation number: Virgin Australia International 3WMxx_".

When I go on the Virgin website to 'Manage my booking', 'Retrieve booking details' and enter the Confirmation number (3WMxx_) and surname, a pop-up windows states it is 'unable to locate the itinerary'.

If I use my Velocity number in place of my Confirmation number, it comes back with the first leg of my itinerary (ADL-SYD), but with a different Confirmation number (Y9Exx_). If I click on that, it then states; "Sorry. This booking has more than 2 flights, Virgin Australia only allows you to view or change bookings with 2 or less flights. For further assistance, contact us".

I've contacted both our corporate travel agent and Virgin who haven't been able to explain why I can't access on-line; does anyone here have any suggestions?
 
It has been noted somewhere recently that Virgin block this feature for bookings made by travel agents.

How true it is I am not sure, but it would be something I'd get the TA to follow up.
 
Check my trip is Amadeus, whereas virgin (DJ) use something different. So you need 2 PNRs, that's normal. IIRC VA international use Amadeus (or something different to what DJ use). If that's correct, then it might be one source of conflict.

Probably asking to TA to sort the seating is the path of least resistance.

Has anyone been able to do seat selection for a DJ/VA dom/int connection - would not surprise me that this is the issue given Virgins multiple booking systems.
 
If you are taking a domestic connection with an international flight your domestic connections will be on a VA flight number not a DJ one. The entire booking will be in Amadeus and if not booked through the website or over the phone booking management online is not possible. You can call up the GCC and they can help you with seat allocation. For international flights as a gold member you are able to select seats at time of booking.

you are quite correct mannej, whenever these bookings are made by our Corporate TA same issue. I just go back to the TA to do seat selections, having checked out EF for my preferred seat first!

I called and spoke to a different VA re a few minutes ago who was a bit more switched on than the one I spoke to on Friday. She basically confirmed what has been noted in the prior posts;

  • Can't manage online, & will need to go back through the TA for seat selection.

A bit of a PITA compared to bookings made through QF/OW & *Alliance, where even though booked through our TA I've been able to monitor and select seats myself. (more important to me as my travel is usually in Y, and seat selection can make a big difference to my comfort!)

So for a regular OW / *A flyer looking at maybe changing to VA, in this instance; VA = :(.

Hopefully check-in, Lounges and the flights are more impressive! :-|

Hopefully an issue sorted once the new systems go in Jan.
