Malaysian Airlines sex attack

believe this is already being discussed elsewhere on the Forum, could be in the MH17 mega thread perhaps...

Saw the promo on this, pretty appalling (the promo that is) sort of making out it was all MH's fault, and almost equating to the two tragedies where hundreds died (i.e. another reason not to fly MH). Although it seems police detained the guy on arrival so the airline must have been involved in alerting police. In any event, if they were a truck company and one of the truck drivers molested someone, should the management of the truck company be held responsible?

Who could fish out their smart phone, unlock it, look for the video function .... while under alleged duress and supposedly in secret, too ?

Without alerting the other person you are doing it !

I can't !

I am quite surprised that SN has chosen to go down this path, as I have found them to actually use some quite genuine stories instead of the sensationalist rubbish.
Even with some of the more heated topics, they haven't gone down to ACA path, however the adds have been quite sensationalist and alarming.

Without viewing the piece, I won't make comment on the actual story yet, however they do say it never rains, but it pours.

It's all about the ratings. Hard to say which story is genuine these days.

yeah - while i have my doubts about the story, apparently the CC 'has made admissions' (depending the source you read). Is MH responsible? Sure, i think they have a case to answer... in the same way MH would be responsible if one of their pilots crashed a plane.

Hmm... A lot of sensationalist fluff in that which made the true story hard to grasp.

They clearly went to a lot of effort to cut the footage to portray only her side of the story. A lot of credibility lost with the "that face says it all" comment from the "journo" while pointing at a blurry and impossible to decipher image. Even with the formatting it was clear the program were putting words into her mouth and forcing certain answers out.

My gut feeling is that he was simply trying to comfort her and in her self-induced state of panic she imagined something more. If the penetration actually took place... Well that's different, but I honestly don't believe it.

I guess the one oddity is that he has been held in custody in Paris, however that could be some kind of French law issue for foreigners accused of serious crimes? I have no idea.

If true then, yes, all sympathy. However this man was a very senior (1980 start) cabin manager. One would think such an issue would have arisen earlier.

It definitely seems to be a true story. From what was said he admitted as much to French Police.

I'm inclined to believe her, despite the sensationalism around the story. You don't sit down and put a passenger's legs over yours and start rubbing them. The whole thing is creepy. I don't for a minute believe you 'imagine' penetration.

The only thing i question is that she was offered and accepted a seat in first class. I don't know whether her friend also moved with her... i think if i had been in that situation I would have insisted she came with me, lest it continue (which it allegedly did as he pleaded for mercy).

Or rather from what she said.

With the French Police investigating why is she on air on TV?

I have no idea whether what she claims happened or not. She certainly believes something happened.

I am a very light sleeper, and I have often been woken inadvertently on flights by flight attendants adjusting my blanket, or something like headphones.

It is an *alleged* sex attack, and it is disappointing for the media to behave the way they are behaving. (PS, this doesn't mean I think he is innocent, just that society demands that people get fair trials and are assumed to be innocent until proven otherwise)

Anyway, the SN article is here: https://au.news.yahoo.com/sunday-ni...y-woman-records-assault-on-malaysia-airlines/ It doesn't appear to be Geo-Locked, (I watched 10 mins of it from Croatia tonight before I had to switch it off as it was such cough journalism)

My interest in the story isnt about if he is guilty or not - I am the last person in the world to judge others based on media stories. But unfortunately for Malaysian, the damage is done by the story, even if he is later found innocent.

I suspect that anything involving Malaysian is now a good news ítem. (good for ratings that is, not the airline)

IMHO they must rebrand themselves and start afresh with a new airline.

And she's not happy with how the airline is dealing with the incident so she sells the story?

Really difficult to believe some of these stories.

Depends on how the company handle it. Was reading in The Age that the woman claims that other staff and "an offical" from MH tried to persuade her to drop the case. If so, then MH does have some real questions to answer, just like Pell, from who that analogy came from, does.

That's understandable. Media expose has the power to change things.

In a way I can understand why she has the media involved, we're all dealt with large corporations and getting a minor complaint sorted is hard enough without it being a major complaint. Sometimes people need some satisfaction.

Getting a problem in front of potential customers on TV gets it sorted quick smart in most cases. But, if you do that make sure you aren't in a glass house and ensure your ducks are lined up.

If she has been even groped by cabin crew then she should go for it as I'm sure MH executives probably brushed her off the first time around if true she was asked to drop it.

I'm sorry but title to this makes me laugh and then made me cross. It is an allegation at this stage.

what amazes me is that she was so frightened that she was able to set her phone to record the FA massaging her leg whilst commentating at the same time. Then she sent him away to get her a drink as she wanted him away from her. But when he returned she was still lying down in her seat recording him. Wouldn’t you get up after the first instance and tell him to stop ?? I am pretty sure most people would. I believe there is more to the story but the media has gone one way with it…

i was satisfied with her responses to that. But I think we really need expert opinion from a sexual assault specialist to say whether the actions of the victim are outside the bounds of credibility. People react in different ways: that does not excuse or justify the perpetration of the act.

i can't imagine for one minute how, if that happened on a plane, you'd go about collecting evidence to support the allegation. Who would believe you? what proof would you have?
