Seat Capacity of 727 seats suggests x4 weekly 737-8 MAX*

*(Using the 330 widebody configs against 727 seats equals x2/2.5 weekly), and it's unlikely they'll be sending the 3-class A350s to BNE.

Proposed starting month of Sept 24. It will be up there with one of the longest 737 flights in the world should this proceed.

According to MAVCOM / GDS, MH has cancelled the 727 seats (4x 737-8) to BNE from Sep '24 and is instead now planning on resuming KUL-BNE towards the end of NW24/25 and the start of NS25.

MH's KUL-BNE is currently filed as a x5 weekly A330-300(ceo), replacing the previous 727 seat filing.

This also co-incide with the rumoured complete cancellation of D7's OOL-KUL (as they have not filed for NW24/25 and MAVCOM status shows that the route authority as "revoked").

I'm sure the Malaysian government and hitherto the people weren't happy holding onto MH like a deadweight.

But I suppose they've turned a corner, so good for them.

It's held via the main sovereign wealth fund who are looking to increase private equity in MAS/MAB in 2025. However MAS/MAB ultimate owner - the Government has political interests to consider unlike its competitor Air Asia. The political interests are very pro MAS/MAB whatever the cost.

Let's not forget that BNE Airport will soak up any opportunity to go, "hey look at us - we got another route!" Airports have even less insightful thought like we do compared to airlines.

Money will start drying up soon the unviable routes will disappear

MH is never that great at the best of times regardless of J or Y, and having experienced the Max on other airlines on several flights mainly in J but also a Y, there is no way under the sun I would fly that long a distance in one.

I’m glad that they’ve swapped to a A333. The difference is night and day and I much rather have it over daily flights.

I’m guessing MH are pulling this plane from one of the AKL/MEL routes when they begin A339 services. They’ve also filed for 2 more flights per week on KUL-NRT, so I’m guessing that’s where the other 2 days are going.

There are quite a few international routes ex-KUL and some domestic routes that are solely operated by MH. Some of these routes would probably never get flown if MH folded, so there is huge incentive to keep it alive.

Not that I disagree with you, but I guess the argument is that MH has a monopoly on the KUL-BNE route anyway.

A lot of Malaysians I know would much rather fly direct (yes, even in a narrow body) than connect on a wide body. And tbh, if your other competitor is D7, you can chuck anything on that route

But who are they trying to attract? If you're thinking of using them as a stepping stone to Europe, this would probably kill that option.

You might be surprised at the number of people who would just pick the cheapest or quickest/direct flights, rather than aircraft type. (They may not be in this forum). They don't have that many seats to fill and lower costs compared with the A333, so that might work.

They have moved the PER flights from the B738 to the MAX as well. Don't know which is worse...

For me the Max will be worse purely from the comfort level as they have removed IFE screens and instead offer streaming. Plus they have reduced the seat pitch from 42" to 39" and removed the 'hard' cabin divider.

We flew the 737 Perth to KL by 'accident' as they subbed in one for the scheduled A330. The seats were reasonably comfortable and the crew nice but that were the only two good things about the flight. We got a limited time offer for a discount off another J flight with them which we ignored.

Oh I absolutely agree. I’m more thinking of the KL-based crowd. I know a few corporates that can only fly their employees on MH.

We have flown with them many times in J between ADL-KUL and they are fine. We are flying ADL-KUL J with them again in September.
When we went to Vietnam with my parents in J they said the MH KUL-SYD flight was far better than the SQ BNE-SIN on the way over

On average, you should expect more things to go wrong than if you were to fly most other airlines.
When those things do go wrong - you can expect MH to handle it worse than most other airlines.

In saying that - they offer sharp pricing in biz at times and taking the risk on things going wrong is often worth the price they sell for.

I didn't appreciate the ice in the beef satays nor the fridge temperature chicken satays on the last J flight I had with them KUL-ADL. The peanut sauce was OK.

I wanted to fly KUL-BNE but couldn't find any reward seat in that sector on the days I wanted so took the circuitous route
