If you have already requalified, through SCs, then that is recorded on your home page, with no additional requirement, it seems, for a specific number of flights. There must be a 'grandfather' provision in play.

Went from gold to platinum in just over three months (was 15 SC's shy of the 1000, but they pushed me over the line - much appreciated VA). Now, another month later, need 560 SC to maintain platinum.

Not so difficult when you live in Perth and are seconded to Melbourne. Time difference is a killer though.

My understanding is the sectors are only required if you don't get the required SCs by August.

If you requalify just on the SCs before then, you won't need the sectors.

It states on this page that both the required number of SC's and eligible sectors are needed to qualify. The web site merely says your eligible sectors won't be SHOWN on the web site. It doesn't mean they aren't counting.

Perhaps Virgin's official rep can clarify.

^Eligible Sectors will be visible in your account from 25 August 2011, however Velocity will not use them as a part of the assessment method for upgrading or maintaining your membership level until 25 August 2012. An Eligible Sector is a flown journey from an origin to a destination on a Virgin Australia booking (DJ or VA Flight number).

Remember that Platinum didn't come in until 26 August 2011. That means that NOBODY could possibly have a requal date before Aug 25. Therefore, that would mean all Platinums would need the 8 sectors to requal irrespective of when they earn it, so the terms that state sectors are not required until after Aug 25 would be meaningless at least for Platinums.

I stand by my comments that if you achieve the required SCs before Aug 25 then you won't need the sectors.

This is no different to where people have pooled SCs and the receiver has not flown any sectors, yet they have still gone up the status tiers because sectors aren't a factor yet. It would not be fair to allow that to happen, yet for people who have achieved requalfication SCs but not sectors during the same time, not to requalify just because their renewal date is after Aug 25.

Including my partner through family pooling with only 7 sectors. Although the website does not show it clearly as the sector count still shows 8 required for Platinums, whereas for others climbing the ladder the sectors are showing.

Currently Sectors are not required for anything - status upgrades or requal. They will be required for both after August 26.

Where there is currently a difference is what people can see online. Red/Silver/Gold members can see sectors counting, whereas Platinum cannot as the field that shows "sectors required for next level" disappears once you are platinum. These sectors still don't count for anything yet.

That's not what I see. I'm a comped DJ Platinum (from earned gold, so not a complete freeloader ) with a requal date of 2 Sept. It shows that I require 8 sectors and it doesn't change when I fly.

By mid-July I will have 770 SCs since 2 September 2011. I'm 99.99% sure that if I get the additional 30 SCs by 25 Aug I'll requalify regardless of sectors. But what happens if I get them on 30 Aug and I've only done 7 sectors? I find the wording very unclear.

You're not seeing anything different to any other Plat. If you look further down the page it says sectors are not part of qualification until after August 25. If you make the SCs by then, sectors are not required. If you don't make the SCs by then, you will need 8 sectors.

I still don't understand how you guys can come to the conclusion that flight sectors don't matter even if you have the required SC's now. If your review date is after 25 Aug, it clearly states you'll need the necessary SC's AND sectors to requalify.

It doesn't matter if you 'qualify' on SC's now, they won't look at it under your Review Date as stated in your account. As noted earlier, no Platinums should have a review date before 25 Aug 2012, so every Platinum will need at least 800 SC's and 8 sectors. This is consistent right through their site.

FWIW, I just rang up and talked to someone about it. They said you need both SC's and sectors to requalify on your review date. If you're missing one, they 'may look into it, but it's unlikely' (their words).

Really? That's interesting - I always thought you only got 1 person to partner gold and then they go to platinum and that's it. The T&Cs don't really indicate either way from memory, so if that's the case it's a pretty good deal!

Looks like they've finally fixed that field. Mine shows the correct number now - I still need a bunch of sectors to re-qualify.
