It's interesting how many different pages i had to check for macau transit from HKIA. Actually a very straightforward process but the information isn't - some are out of date like the ferry.

When you do get to do the transit, have a look around, then remember my experience at the beginning of covid….
All those check-in counters.. only 1 was open and needed.
All that space to line up - we were the only people in the room.
Full gold bus - we were the only passengers.
Grand Hyatt Hotel Macau, 715 rooms - only 15 guests.
All those casinos - all closed.

Just go to Sofitel Mon to Thurs. Peace and quiet away from Cotai, and feels just as empty as height of covid.

Bloody good hotel, though.

Already back at HKIA.

The experience now is going to E2 transfer desk, buy a bus ticket (or prebook online) its currently free one way to Macao on the direct bus (tourism promotion). They'll grab your luggage for you and you transfer to the sky pier (same place for ferries to mainland china). You then hop on a bus that'll take you straight over the HZMB to Macao entry port (or Zhuhai if you go for that side).

Reverse is not free and 280HKD/MOP one way golden bus is a lot cheaper, but this means you never enter HK and depending on airlines you can have your bag checked in at Macao departure.

We were at Sofitel- nice hotel but quite busy and the area in general is also relatively busy especially near ruins of St Paul. Unfortunately the casino at ponte 16 has closed so no free shuttle from HZMB port.

Also as an aside, Sofitel did offer a vehicle pickup from HKIA for 650 MOP i believe. (About $120 AUD)

Memories, lived there for while about 20yrs ago. The casino's were mostly all being built still. We'd use all the casino/hotel shuttle buses to move about for free, much more empty than the public buses!
