Has anyone used the direct flight to ferry service with immigration clearance at Macau instead of clearing customs then catching the ferry?

I am reading conflicting stories regarding primarily the timing with many people complaining there are only 4 or so of these services a day.

We are on QF127 with ETA 1745 23/12/12

Cheers

I am sure all the times are listed on the website for the normal ferry service.

No I haven't used it, I recently did the normal ferry.

Some reviews on Tripadvisor: Turbojet HK Airport to Macau - TurboJet, Hong Kong Traveller Reviews - TripAdvisor

I found it to be better than some of the reviewers. It's not a nightmare or chaotic as some have described it. It's just that you are doing it all for the first time and most of your fellow travellers have done the trip heaps of times. You just take it all in your stride.

I travelled on the Turbojet service from HKIA to MACAU in September. It is direct, convenient and probably the best way of travelling between the two (not having to pass through Hong Kong city and do customs/immigration twice). I caught the 1700 service, having arrived from BKK at about 1500. On arrival from your flight, go to direct to Level 5 (remaining airside) and purchase the ticket from the Turbojet counter at least 60 minutes prior to the next Turbojet departure. Accesss to the escalator down to the "train" (which whisks you underground to the wharf) is controlled and they only allow those ticketed on the next ferry to proceed.

If you are due to arrive at HKIA at about 1745, there is a service to Macau at 1950. This is plenty of time.

You do not go through customs/immigration at HKIA. You are effectively in transit and remain airside. On arrival at HKIA, do not collect your checked baggage. Proceed direct to the TURBOJET counter, show them your baggage receipt and buy your ticket. You will collect checked baggage on arrival at the terminal in Macau. You do not see your checked bagged until after arrival in Macau, at Macau customs/immigatation.

Don't worry about the checked baggage. It's sent through the HKIA baggage sorting system to the Turbojet wharf where the staff load it without you accessing it. That's why they need your baggage receipt details at least 60 minutes prior to departure for Macau.

There are currently seven direct Turbojet services each day, operating at about two-hourly intervals during the day.

So you show you checked luggage receipt to hkg and they get the bags and load them on the ferry?

This sir, is why AFF rocks [at times]

Sprucegoose, Yes, pretty much, although I got the impression that it's all automated.

On arrival at HKIA I walked directly from the aircraft to the Turbojet counter (say about a 10 minute walk) and showed the counter staff my baggage claim. There's good direction signs to get you there. I bought the ticket and they entered the claim reference details into the system. Turbojet arrived in Macau. Walked off and after 10-15 minutes the baggage was available for collection in Macau.

I'm assuming that the baggage tracking system at HKIA was programmed (and sophisticated enough) to re-direct my baggage to the Turbojet terminal rather than it being transferred to the airport carousel, provided that you get to the Turbojet counter quick enough.

Anyhow, it all worked seamlessly.

I travelled in oct arrive at hkia with one and the half to the next ferry got my tic and show luggage receipt, still have time to get coffee from SB.

Did it Monday. Turbojet are at E2 transfer which is near to immigration. I screwed up and had 2.5 hour wait and they wouldn't let me get on the train to the Skypier. If you get stuck airside in arrival level then options are very limited - Chinese cafe with no beer - so try to get them to let you on the train and wait at Skypier since there are more options there - including the aforementioned SB

Excellent thanks, it's on my list of things to do!
