Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I got one as well. I'm not sure what the criteria is, i'm a CBR based SG but it was mostly earned through leisure travel on disc economy.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

Just got mine. WP, but only just qualified last month...

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

Yeah got mine today as well. Currently WP but have been invited as an SG for the past couple of years.

Looking forward to attending again, always a good show.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

SG CBR based just received one also.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

Me too. Very tempted to go and check it out. My office is just down the road from the Convention Centre.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I went last year, but mainly as it was a short walk from the office on Northbourne Avenue and I needed to get lunch anyway. Apart from getting some info on NGCI and the new CBR airport terminal, most of the other booths were targeted to the APS (I'm in the private sector).

I don't think I'll go this year. I don't work from Northbourne anymore, and am not even sure if I'll be in town on that day.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

My office (a federal MP) got one and I'm the lucky one who gets to go along for a morning tea. Of course, no one else in the office was interested!

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I am just off Marcus Clarke st so will just take a stroll across. Hope the weather is nice :)

An SG colleague also received the invite.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I got two invites - one to the morning tea, one to lunch - lunch was addressed to me as a WP, morning tea as a "Valued Customer" or some such.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I've been along for the last 3-4 years (can't remember exactly), but mainly because I had a specific question for one of the companies at the show and I've found the reps they send to this event to be pretty good at solving issues.

Last year the BA rep told me off the top of his head which aircraft registrations were in the upcoming 'New First' fit out schedule and which flight numbers they usually covered with those aircraft so I had a better chance of booking into the refitted cabin on an upcoming JFK-LHR flight (and he was right).

In 2009 I was having issues with seat selection on an American Eagle flight as part of an AONE4 trip - the AA rep at the show took down the flight number on the back of one of my business cards and organised the seats I wanted within a couple of days.

Of course I also stay for the raffle but haven't yet won anything sadly.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

Well a good show today with a big push on the DFW flights. There was a bucking bull machine which a couple of people tried out. The food was excellent as usual.

Alan Williams the regional general manager was greeting people as we entered and thanking people for flying QF.

Didn't win anything via the door prize ticket but fun looking around. Lots of ambassadors there representing their countries and I spoke to a lovely young lady (and her husband undoubtedly thinks the same) from Venezuela and saw the ambassador.

Kudos to Quest serviced apartments who had big woven plastic type bags near the door and handing them out to people so they could hold their stash.

Faux pas of the show, an exhibitor from HBA when asked about his flight said it was a direct flight. I asked him 'you took a DJ flight to the CBR QF travel show?' He then realised that it probably wasn't the best place to mention it any more.

The entry was a classic gate lice scenario with people milling about until the doors opened and then going to the correct table to get their name badge. All in all an enjoyable 90 minutes.

Any other AFFers attend?

Any other AFFers attend?

Went along as usual with an agenda - this time to figure out from either QF or BA the best options for flights to LHR from Australia given this week's announcements. Couldn't find anyone from QF who could comment specifically about changes to routes / aircraft / travel classes, but the BA rep was extremely helpful and gave me all the info I needed.

The AA rep also had some useful information in regards to connection options out of DFW (the real focus of the event) as well as the MD80 replacement progress and some background about the new AA terminal at SFO.

I spoke with a Qantas rep about the P1 tier but as expected didn't learn anything new.

Re: Lunch invitation for the Qantas Corporate Travel Show in Canberra: Are you coming

I was there.

I had a very long chat with a QF ACT rep. My first question was about Platinum One and, unsurprisingly, she said she'd rather not say much. She did say "about October' would be when details would be released. I had a chat with her about priority boarding and she said she didn't think QF offered it domestically. Imagine my surprise. Then I went on to outline my huge disappointment about the removal of anytime access. She listened and then ask if I could see QF's point of view, saying there were a lot of people that would use the lounge and then fly Virgin. I only remembered later that I should have asked her how they in fact had these figures, given one of the arguments on the thread was that the great majority of people never seemed to have a record taken of their anytime access (eg. a note in the computer or a tally, although I think MEL were doing this towards the end).

The Hilton stand were giving out DoubleTree umbrellas. Epic fail. They'd be lucky to keep a dwarf out of the rain. In fact, I couldn't even get mine up (the umbrella, people, the umbrella) so it went straight in the bin. I did have a good chat with one of the reps there about the difference between HHonors Diamond (top tier) and Gold Passport Diamond (top tier) and how I feel HHonors offers very little incentive to go beyond Gold (second top tier).

Crown from Melbourne had a good stand. To their credit, their giveaways were tailored male and female with the former offered a nice tape measure with Crown on the side. Hyatt's stand was decent. They didn't have much info on the refurbed Park Hyatt Sydney other than there would be three penthouses.

The BA stand reps were useless. I asked them if a Qantas Platinum flying economy could use the LHR T5 Arrivals lounge. The answer was yes. Then I asked if I could use it travelling in Euro Traveller from, say, Athens to London. Again, yes. She clearly didn't have a clue. In contrast, the AA stand rep had much better knowledge. There are no plans for a Flagship lounge at DFW, primarily because no matter which terminal they put it in they'd disappoint people. The rep also had much better knowledge about AA LHR T3 Arrivals lounge access for QF passengers. Simply, only when flying QF in J or F. No access for Platinum (unless in J or F).

Any other AFFers attend?

I went and won 2 nights at the Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, which going by their website is worth $3,900.

I thought it was a good show and got some useful information about various hotels and their conferencing facilities.

Congrats, always good to hear that people win things.

A laugh I had, I was at one of the hotel stands and asked if they had any hotels in MNL. He said he would just check and as he started tapping away at his iPad asked 'is that in SIN?' Maybe learning geography should be a priority?

Just to clarify, access is of course available for Emeralds if flying AA. (Flagship Lounge(R) / Arrivals Lounge)
All First, Business and oneworld™ Emerald passengers flying American to London Heathrow are invited to enjoy the Arrivals Lounge amenities upon their arrival (all other passengers can pay a fee of $90 USD + VAT for access to the London Heathrow lounge upon arriving)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks, serfty. I was referring to QF passengers arriving from Asia but my post was certainly not clear in this regard. Given the confusion that often reins on Arrivals lounge access, your clarification is extra important.

(And another correction from me (far, far less important): the umbrella was from Hampton, not DoubleTree.)

Highly tempted to quote all the comments about the quality of QF reps in the various posts... but i won't :)
