Re: The luggage guy

I need to "upgrade" my suitcase. My current bag is just that little bit too small. I brought back (6 bottles) wine from the buzz titanic tour this week and while wight in bag wasn't an issue (18.5 kg) space was. I heard about a suitcase that was designed with special panels and compartments , Mrs GPH mentioned it yesterday. Can you comment on this ? (Should this be moved to a new / different thread Mod's ?)

The compartments were labelled. Umbrella, underwear etc

Re: The luggage guy

@Fifa - my go to bag is a caribee skymaster 40. best bag ever.

Thanks - looks like a great carry on option at only 1.2kg!
May be my +1's next birthday present and he can test it for me ;).

Re: The luggage guy

welcome! I'm only new too :)

any info on the Lipault Plume range? 4 wheel spinner carry on and matching weekend bag?

Partner has fallen in love with them..

That's what I use as a carry-on. Excellent bag. Wheel-aboards are wonderful when walking around the terminal but I've given up on them as being too heavy.

Very light weight empty was one of my key selection criteria.

The only downside of the lighter weight fabric that I have found is that it started to tear slightly at the seam near the side handle. Took it to the luggage repair place and they stitched in a piece of reinforcement.

Re: The luggage guy

I would be interested to know what you [icehockeymadman] think about the current range on sale at the online QF Shop

It's all academic now. I bought the vis a vis from crumpler.

Im also interested in what people think of the Samsonite Engenero that's on sale on the qantas store.

I was very much taken with the idea, and wanted one, till I found out how much it weighed

I did think a little of that, but I'm now hoping that since they ended up with $1.5 million in funding and re-engineered the design that it'll end up a little lighter... suppose I'll find out in August.

I will look forward to your review :)

Just picked up both the 55cm and 69cm Samsonite Engenero from the Qantas Store. Cost 79,500 points.

Probably not the best way to spend them though they were both on sale for 30% off in the luggage sale so thats not too bad.

An update on our navy blue Antler lightweight luggage we bought in Singapore a couple of years ago. I thought they would last longer than they did. One large suitcase has a very large crack basically all along one side. I taped it up with some super strong duct tape from Bunnings. The other large case now has some small cracks appearing on this trip. Also the rollon I was using ( which Ron inherited as I bought a super lightweight fabric IT LUGGAGE rollon ) one side of the handle has broken completely. So I am not very happy with Antler luggage. I have got to get more duct tape !! we are on an 8 week trip currently.

I am considering buying the IT luggage large cases that match my new roll on. It is the Lite Expander range - I am happy with the roll on, and the large case is only $149.

David Jones normally has a 50pc Samsonite sale once or twice a year. Would be good to buy through QFF online store for points!

Can't say I'm a fan of Samsonite these days. Then again it's most likely a case of get what you pay for.

Mrs and I were coming back from SF when we realised that we needed another bag to bring back the goodies from the conference we attended. Headed to Macy's (that probably explains the whole situation) and grabbed a Samsonite that looked sturdy enough though a little larger than carry-on when expanded. Crossed the road to Union Square headed back to hotel and the handle just broke off! Salespersons couldn't stop laughing when we went back to exchange the bag. Got the next model up and it did make it home to Syd without issues. Haven't used it since.

Be interested in how you find it. We got the Vis-A-Vis Trunk 78cm for our trip to SF. It held up quite well. There were minor scuffs but that was to be expected.

Wondering if (Hoping) I'll be able to get away with using just the Crumpler Dry Red 9 and a Mission Workshop VX Sanction as carry-on only for my upcoming SYD-SIN-PEN trip in SQ J. Was going to add the Crumpler Dry Red 7 but the dimensions are just a little off. :(
