I'm travelling to London on QF J class. Plenty of luggage allowance between J class and FF status. In London I connect onto a domestic Y class with BA. Completely separate booking booked at different times. Their website states 1 bag, no more than 23kgs. Nothing about oneworld status, only their exec club.

I want to check 2 bags if possible. If i check in in MEL, all the way to final destination, does anyone know if I will get my Qantas allowance or will this cause probs in London with BA? Thanks - have previously travelled all on one booking so never been an issue before.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You should be able to check you luggage all they way through - bring both e-ticket copies with you when checking in in Oz.

In general, the allowance available for you on check-in is what you'll get.

You may be ok getting there if QF checks it all the way through, but the BA policy is clear that with separate bookings the individual allowances will apply and can expect to pay excess if you have more than 1 x 23Kg bag if this is a roundtrip booking

If you are stopping over in London , or if QF does not check the bags through, then expect to pay excess baggage in London

Yeah, that's what I'm concerned about - QF not checking me all the way. Cheers for the confirmation. Won't risk it - will just pack lighter!

If you really want to take 2 pieces to a max of 45Kg, the excess charges on BA domestic are not that bad with 1 extra piece costing GBP35 for UK domestic flights.

You could just link the 2 bookings; so that if the flight is delayed it will show up on BA system that you are delayed.

Domestic UK and into Europe from London the fees for an extra bag aren't too bad on BA.

Qantas are worse, especially if you have no status.

Thanks all.

Have already linked the bookings and they now show in the same booking on the Qantas site so hopefully this wouldnt be a problem. So long as i can check in luggage at Melbourne won't be a problem anyway, but still, might not risk it even if the BA domestic extra luggage fee isnt too high. Wouldn't it be good if oneoworld would implement a consistent approach to baggage allowances? Maybe not practical?
