They're also looking at a skyteam airline (via subsidiary) ;)

If they get both (and their ownership stake in bmi is now worth a lot more assuming open skies is ratified by US), perhaps they rename to European Lufthansa

Lufthansa plans to use Jet-Blue as its feeder partner in New York by linking booking systems and frequent-flyer programmes.

The German airline said the link-up with the US carrier, in which Lufthansa took a 19 per cent stake at the end of last year, was aimed at creating a quasi-hub at JFK airport.

It said the move would add to the benefits of owning BMI British Midland, the UK airline in which Lufthansa holds a stake of just under 30 per cent and in which it has an option to buy a majority stake from December.

The German carrier has long wanted to challenge its rival British Airways on the lucrative routes between London Heathrow and the US.

This is all great news for me. I'm an HON Circle member, but fly a lot with Jet Blue as they fly direct to FLL amd MCO as well as JFK and several other destinations I commonly use. They also offer, to me, the best low cost option on the east coast of the US.

Their staff are bright and happy, they make amending flights easy, this week I had to change a flight from FLL, originally going to BOS, but haveto now go to New York for a meeting and then home to BOS. This was was easily done via their website, and I actually got credit as a result.

Yes they had a few horror episodes last year, but I think overall they offer a fantastic service, including the best blue corn chips in the air, and 45 channels of cable to choose from for free. Unfortunately their's "57 channels and nothing on" (a Bruce Springsteen song).

Obviously all this leads to Lufty taking a stronger position in several ways. Is Continental on the cards for a buy out?
